Why have waiters and people like Guinan when you have repli?

Why wuold you need someone to take your order then make you wait for the food when you could just get it yourself from the replicator.

I think they added to the series because they gave the Enterprise a sense of being more than a battle ship or an exploratory vessel. Since it IS the Federation flagship, Ten Forward was a gathering place for the crew to help them maintain their sanity under the stress of space travel. It is a commonly known fact that space travel can be taxing at the least to humans, and Ten Forward gave the crew a place to simply sit around and talk and eat as they would on Earth.

Yeah, I always saw Ten Forward as a place where the crew could go for a break and socialize. I mean, who would really want to spend all their time alone in their quarters? I think that Ten Forward was a place where the crew could get away from the stress of their jobs and just be "normal."

^ I don't think the matter is so much whether or not they want real food or someone else to replicate something for them, but that they need a way to socialize being out in space on a ship for so long.
