The Borg is on Enterprise!

Synopsis:

An arctic research team on Earth discovers debris from an alien vessel, nearly a century old, buried in a glacier along with the bodies of two cybernetically enhanced humanoids. Once those beings are thawed for investigation, they come to life and abduct the scientists and their transport vessel. Enterprise is called to intercept, but Captain Archer and his crew find these cyborgs to be an intractable, insidious enemy.

We'll let this be the official episode thread, whereas that can debate the merits of the idea.

Personally, I think bringing in the Borg is a stupid idea and a sign of the creative lack that ENT has shown lately. However, I'm willing to see it before I make a final call.

Creative LACK!? The last SEVERAL episodes have been great! But I think its breaching the continuum and the timeline. You might as well rewrite Next Gen, recast it, and tape it all over again.

^"Cease Fire", "Future Tense", "Canamar", and "Judgment" were good (even if the last was derivative of TUC). "The Crossing" and "The Breach" had good parts, but overall were average. I missed "Horizon". I've heard good things about "Congenitor", so I'll see it Saturday.

However, none of these episodes---with the possible exception of "Cease Fire"---is truly *original*. Or even an original take on an old concept. A rather larger percentage of ENT's ep recently have been remakes of other Trek episodes or movies. Now, that alone isn't bad....but when they remake it in a form no different----or worse, more straightforward----than the original, that's a problem.

Besides, bringing in the Borg *is* a sign of flagging creativity. They couldn't think of anything more intesting, so BAM, out come the Borg, 200 years too early.

I had a dream that they ran a preview of Regeneration, and it summed up that it could be the last episode for Enterprise if *beep* doesn't pick up.

The Borg on Enterprise is going to be similar to the Ferengi It is going to be HORRIBZLE, and these are not ordinary Borg they are First Contact Era Borg, so how are they going to destroy them theat are Way More Advanced than Enterprise!

wow u people must be pretty thick,This episode actually starts everything that is mysterious in the Star Trek series. Some one mentioned about the 3 Star Trek books that deals with the mirror universe. In Dark Victory the mirror universe Spock tells Kirk that the two universes were aligned exactly until 100 years after First Contact with the Vulcans. Kirk asked what happened and Spock said that they were preparing for a Borg threat. Then Starfleet-Federation turned into the Terrain Empire. This is the episode were the mirror universe was created. In this universe Starfleet my want to keep quiet about this from the public, so it was classified Top Secret and I think this started section 31, remember in the DS9 episode were they said that section 31 was formed in the early part of Starfleets history, also this could be an explanation why the Ferengi as a lower assimilation number compared to the other races in the alpha quadrant. As for the Hansons there are two possibilities for them, 1) they were ordered by section 31 to investigate the Borg or 2) the taped into a very classified piece of document about the Borg in the 22nd century. Also in First Contact Lily actually saw the Borg face to face when she was onboard the Enterprise-E so one person new about the Borg in the 21st century, also maybe that is way Archers ship was called Enterprise because of Cochran being tolled about the Enterprise and the Borg by the senior staff just to make the story straight. And without cleaning the Borg debris and wiping Lily and Cochrans memory we got this stupid mess. My God, Picard and his crew really screwed up the timeline now did they?

^An intriguing speculation, I must say.

However, I always assumed that Lily and Cochrane *did* have selective memory wipes.

Not cleaning up Borg debris was just stupid of Picard, though. Hmm...how did a ship that exploded over Montana end up in Antarctica? And if there was a piece of it large enough to survive reentry without burning up, why didn't the Entprise *notice* this?

nope, as far as i know (and i have checked all this stuff out a lot) there minds wernt wiped. The debris from the sphere might not have just fallen strait to earth after it was destroyed, it might have drifted 4 a while; enterprise might be decieving us, it might just be a show on the miror universe and we might not even know it.

either way lindey, spock said that the timelines between the miror universe and the real universe timelines were exactly the same until 100 years after cochranes launch, kirk asked spock why, and spock said that they were preparing 4 a borg threat. Plus, in the prview of the episode it says "Its enterprises FIRST encounter..." that means that most likely there will be more which further proves my point. even if those 2 did have there meories wiped it wouldnt matter, this show could be based on the miror universe.

They wouldn't do that. Berman is smart, but he's not Trekkie smart. Only we could figure out something like that. But in the trekkie world, that seems unrealistic, doesn't it?

it doesnt seem that unrealistic, i think it is the only explanation, i must sound like a nerd, but y else would berman do this, It might turn out to be one of those Future episodes, when daneils comes back to save them, cus there weapons r not advanced. But it seems very posible to me.

My overall rating: 8/10

A solid eight for this episode. Im finally starting to enjoy watching Enterprise. The cast seems to be interacting very well. The overall story was well written. It was nice to see how they integrated this episode in with the First Contact storyline, very plausible. However, I felt slightly disappointed by the ending. I was expecting the information to be classified, or something of that sort. The open ending left for future episodes based on the Borg. My personal feeling is that they should leave it right here. The Borg are already overused and any future episodes could disrupt the timeline as we know it. I hope Berman and Bragga get the message that the Borg on Enterprise should end right here. I was impressed to see how the Borg reacted in these situations. My only problem was that these are Borg from the future (assimilated by Borg from the TNG era), and should have been practically impervious to Starfleets technology even though they technically had never encountered them until almost two centuries later. Of course this would make for a dull episode of Enterprise, after all, we need a struggle to keep the viewers interested. Aside from this detail, I enjoyed the episode.

The acting was superb. At this rate they may as well get rid of Mayweather. In the past two episodes hes had maybe two lines and twenty seconds on screen. Archer is showing more decisiveness with each episode, and Im enjoying watching him more now than I had been. Tucker and Reed are excellent as supporting actors in this episode. Phlox was pretty good, but based on some of his previous episodes I felt he was restraining himself at points and could have given an even better show than we saw. TPol as usual was predictable and also served well in a supporting role. As for Sato, Im just glad she didnt start whining.

As you can guess, my main reason for giving this episode an 8 is because of the Borg seeming a little too weak. Though they did adapt, I just cant see a Borg from the future being this vulnerable. The Borg storyline should end here and now with the information being classified or destroyed. Other than this pet peeve of mine, I enjoyed this episode but cant say its the best Ive seen.

I find it interesting that the message would take 200+ years to get to their homeworld (now we know as uniplex) and that when Q sent the Enterprise-D crew deep into the Delta Quadrant, that in fact, that Borg ship might've been already enroute to Earth.

How could it have an "open-ended" ending when the only borg vessel in almost 70,000 light years was destroyed and the subspace message would reach the homeworld in over 200 years??

Absolutly supurb!

I don't say that much about Trek since May of 99', but this was a very good ep. The interaction between the two storylines, that of the Borg and the current crew, was nicely done. The ending, such a change of perspective on why things happened as they did with the Federation and The Borg in the 24th century, was one of the best scenes and moments in Trek history, in my view. Remember, when the E-D encountered the first Borg cube in 2365, it was only 2 years or so from a Federation outpost, which is a lot closer than the Borg empire we saw in Voyager was to the Federation, which goes along with what Los was saying. I love it. I think this will be the only show for the Borg on Enterprise, but it was a lot better than I had thought it would be.

On a side note, I can't wait for T'Pol's ep next week!
