Here we go again! This energy for nothing scheme. This Phaser stuff....How does a completely inanimate crystal amplify this light beam?

i find it hard to belive your only eleven, i belive that is the sixth grade, you use such words as combustion, internal, etc... they do not teach thoes words in sixth grade, besides the fact there all spelled correctly, ether you are the smartest sixth grader i'v ever met... or your not telling the truth. and theres no reason you should feel the need to insult me | i have been waching star trek for five years I have a very high IQ im not insulting you ,sory for any missunderstanding

You're kidding right? You can watch startrek all you want but that doesn't mean you have a high IQ.
Anyways, whatever.
I'm 21 and my daughter is smarter than me.

I do not believe that futile was implying a connection between Star Trek and inteligence.

A laser consists of two mirrors designed to reflect a given wavelength of light and between them a "lasing cavity" containing atoms whose outer shell electrons can be exited to a higher energy state by the input of external energy. When more atoms are in the exited state than in the ground state, and if the mirorrs are exactly parallel and spaced apart at a multiple of the wavelength desired, a beam of photons is produced. These photons are all the same wavelength and in phase with each other (coherent). Laser light hitting matter will be reflected and/or absorbed (depending on the matter). Any light absorbed will create heat (other effects do occur at the quantum level, but bulk materials just get hotter).

Very special crystals are currently used to "amplify" laser pulses. They take a large, slow pulse (low amplitude and long time) and "compress" it into a very short pulse (high amplitude but short time). These systems produce pulses of 1 femtosecond or even less - short enough to catch chemical reactions at the atomic level. The important thing is - OUTPUT energy is always less than INPUT energy. No something for nothing.
A phaser is a magical "energy weapon" dreamed up by sci-fi writers. For instance, when vaporizing a bad guy how does a phaser know where the bad guy ends and the floor begins?

thats a really good point, never thought of that.
lol, that'd be funny to vaporise an intruder and take out half the floor with him.

Very nice Webtaz. I congradulate you on a succesful post in the time of my absense.
I'm glad some people around here know about, Particle Physics, Quantam Physics, and all the other types out there (those are the two that apply most)
I look forward to reading your future posts!
