In the holodeck you have 10-30 some odd holoprojecters projecting 1 program, why cant you have 1 holo projecter projecting hologrammes of holo projecters and have the holographic projecters project the program, so then the only one that really could burn out is the real one and instead of replacing lots all you really have to do is replace 1. Does anyone get where im comming from???

i get wat ur saying, but in doing that it would therefore replicate the unit and that is pointless because u would have to replicate 1 neways, if a holoprojecter was to project another holoprojecter that would be like say u r punching a baloon, if there is no air in the baloon u cant punch it nemore, u get it?

All the projecters are all around the room, for coverage of the program. If you had 1 projector, it might only project from where it can see, so say only one side of the person.

Think of it this way...

In a car, why don't we just use 1 cylinder instead of 4, 6 or 8?

Because 1 is not capable of doing the job by itself, of course.

I assume the same applies here.

WRONG.

1 cylinder can do its job, but it doesn't make enough power to move the car.

Example: 1 cylinder motorcycles making 100+ hp

The Geo Metro had a 3 cylinder variant. Mazda uses a rotary motor, wankle as its commonly refered to, to power cars. Its 1 rotary engine combined with a two cylinder motor.

I always hated analogies. I remember one in school, there was a closed box of candy, and a stadium. Then a car, to a ?

We had to figure it out. The answers to choose from were a goldfish (dunno), a box in the garbage can, a convertable, and an open box.

It bugged the heck outta me, so I chose box in the garbage can. THATS WHERE IT BELONGS!!!

That is a good question, one that the previous replies have completely failed to answer. My best guess is due to a data limit of the current projectors. Each projector can handle X kiloquads of data/photons. X+1 kiloquads/photons and it wont work. Make sense?

Well, PrankishSmart answered it pretty well:

Not really. Because you could use 1 holoprojector to project another holoprojector to a position where it could project the doctor. Its like your lightbulb on your ceiling. It will not illuminate anything anything under an opaque obect, but by using a mirror, we can reflect this light. Ultimately however, there is only so much light the bulb can produce. So the bulb is the Holoprojector, the mirror is the holographic holoprojector, and the light the doctor.
