Sat Apr 12, 2003 3:15 pm Idea for a New ST Series |
|
I had an idea for a new ST series: "Starfleet Command." I know the title's a little dumb but hey. The concept's more interesting. I thought it would be awesome to do a show about the inner workings of Starfleet and Starfleet command, kind of the Star Trek equivalent of The West Wing. You'd have all the high ranking Starfleet Admirals and all this top secret stuff going around. The show would focus on Starfleet command but of course there would be cameos and special episodes. For example: I want to know what all the Starfleet Admirals think about Voyager's return and what they intend to do with all of the crew members that she picked up on the way. Wouldn't it be fascinating to see how a Starfleet Admiral struggled with admitting former Maquis into the organization s/he has spent his/her life working for? Or to see where all of the somewhat odd orders can come from, like in "Insurrection" when Dougherty was under orders from the Federation Council. Hmm.....
So what does everyone here think?

Well you could do some pretty exciting stuff with it too: Captains getting promoted for winning major battles would be something: great battle scenes. Plus the science stuff in top-secret Starfleet labs would be incredible! Can you imagine what the writers could come up with?! Amazing!

Ooo I have an addendum to my idea: The show could go back and start at the beginning of TOS (or Enterprise) and continue through Voyager, showing die hard Trekkies what happened in Starfleet Command during all those shows.

I think it would be a good Idea, although it would be even better if it highlighted the Corruption and Plans of Genocide in the federation especially the dealings with section 31. I also think a star fleet version of Judge Advocate General or Diplomatic Corps would make a good series

Yeah I was a young Trekkie too. I didn't really understand ST, but I liked it. TNG was my favorite.

They do have JAGs in ST: remember TNG's "The Measure of a Man"?

I thought that Enterprise had the potential to become a great series. I said that a year ago just before production on Season 2 began. In all honesty I don't think that it has improved all that well.
What I think would be good would be a series based on a ship behind enemy lines, sort of like a Spec-Ops commando ship. Think of the Star Wars X-Wing Wraith Squadron/Iron Fist/Solo Command books but set in the Star Trek universe. Whether this would make a good series or not I've no idea...probably not lol.
