Easy. Just get a small radio transmitter and rig it with a touch-trigger device that would be attached to the inside of a comm badge replica. The biggest issue would be finding a small enough transmitter. And of course, you'd need two if you wanted to have any fun...

Only if you're a good artist, replicating that stuff is hard.

*revives thread*

Rediculously simple. I haven't done this, of course, but.. ^_^'' Anyway.

To make TOS/ENT communicators:

1) Buy two flip cell phones.
2) Open them up, pull everything out of the case.
3) Build your own cases to look like a communicator.
4) Put cell phone equipment into your cases.
5) Be sure you have cell phone service. ^_~
6) Set speed dial.

Another method would be to pull out all the equipment from a walkie talkie, and.. you get my point.

The only easy method I could think up for a TNG/DS9/VOY communicator would be to have a tap-activated interface (aka, an on/off switch) and a microphone/speaker assembly in the combadge (would be hard, with the feedback), and then the actual transmission equipment hidden in a pocket or something.

*shrug* This is ten minutes worth of thinking here. I still can say that I have a life. ^_^

I have no life. If I had a life it would be sad and melancholy. And I think that if I actually had a life it would be a life of destruction and mayhem for the entire planet.....hope I don't ever see the Sun....for all your sakes...

Hey,
a comm badge internal configiruration has a subspace transceiver assembly, Dermal sensor controller, encryption circuit assembly and a sarium krellide power cell! Just try saying all that 3 times really fast!

you could build a small communicator, but it wouldn't be anything like an actual star trek one. Maybe it could work kind of like those voice activated cell phones. You tap it, say the name of the person... yah. I am not a technical person by any means, I know next to nothing about technology and how it works so just my idea. I guess it would be like a tiny cell phone with no buttons that couldn't do much... how would you recieve a call? You wouldn't have the choice of it rining, and then answering it would just start talking to you. I saw something about this on TV once, they said something along the lines of it is deffinettly possible. Altho I have no clue how to do it.

Buy a very small phone, stick a safety pin on the back and a cardboard cut out of a comm badge on the front and voilla!

But then again, it isn't exactly like a cellphone walkie talkie! It does use Subspace equipment and such to make instant communication to locations extremely far away. So it can't be considered a cell phone.

or you could make 2 of them, put a transmitter in both of them from a radio give them a litheium battery and recievers, also a small speaker, and it may work!
