Anti matter is basically the opposite of matter (Please don't ask, I have no idea). When it comes into contact with regular matter, it reacts violently. This reaction is what powers many starships (including Federation ones).

cool, that's pretty interesting, I've been looking it up and I understand it better now, thanks for your help, also I heard that much of Voyager's power comes from it, do you know if that is true?
