"Okay," Janeway mumbled. "Let's take this outside."

"No!"Both Shiral and Schrih denied simultaneously.

"The fight is always held where the challenge is pronounced," Schrih's voice shivered with exhaustion, though as well as excitement.

"I think we better let them settle this among themselves," Harry quietly advised his Captain.

"Our only hope is the exhausted, fallen ruler. If she wins, we might still have a chance to help,
but if Shiral would stand as the winner..." Kathryn hissed realizing that she and her crewmembers were trapped as hunted, fearful animals.

While everyone waited for the two fighters to start, an unexpected voice shattered the building
tension. "I have an idea," Tom announced, still standing next to the, now listening, B'Elanna.

"Something commonly used to solve pointless bar fights as quick as possible."

"Let hear!" Shiral barked, her eyes flickering with inappropriate hope.

"Each fighter gets one blow each. Then it up to each one to find the technique best to use."

"Sounds like a bad idea," Shiral snorted in Tom’s direction. "At my bar, people could fight as much as they wanted -- as long as they took it out of my sight."

"Shiral," Schrih said, entreating and masterful at the same time. "Let us meet at half the way. We are already undermanned."

And Shiral nodded.

The two alien women moved around one another, exchanging hostile glares and the occasional
growling murmurs.

Bral stood next to Janeway and Harry, who both discreetly watched his every movements.
Tom actually yawned. Though everyone were tired, the absurd in the situation had kept them
from realizing it fully.

"Okay, Schrih gets to punch first." B’Elanna announced after she'd drawn lots. Since she'd turned her back to all the others, no one had to know who the splints really favored.

A raw puff of air surrounded the two fighters. They had agreed on fighting each other further down in the hallway, in a dreary dead end.

"Remember what you have to lose..." Shiral taunted and cracked her long fingers. Her voice was incredibly sweet, though her eyes were just as raw as the air. "You’re not as strong anymore..."

Schrih turned to face her lopsided audience. Bral gave her a half-hearted smile. If Shiral hadn’t been such a spokesman for fair play, she could have taken her former leader out then and there.

Schrih turned to her once so loyal contact, rolled her eyes at Shiral's tense face -- and struck.
A genuine straight right, her fist connecting with that sensitive place at Shiral's jaw. She fell like a pine, dust welled up and clogged the respiratory systems of them all.

"That was easy..." Tom mumbled, while studying how Janeway bent down and pulled a hidden dermal regenerator out of her shoe.

She handed it to Schrih. "Treat your wounds with this. We’ll meet again tomorrow, aboard my ship. We have some discussion to do," Janeway winked at Bral.

"What about her?" Bral asked and motioned towards Shiral, lying helpless at the floor, something indeterminable trailed from her open mouth.

"Voyager can beam her over to one of your ships."

She motioned to her officers to follow her, visibly relieved.

"Captain! Are we just going to leave them here?" Harry hissed, like it was some horrid, unimaginable scenario.

"We’re not the only ones who need to talk things through."

A few hours later, Kathryn Janeway, Tom Paris, harry Kim and B’Elanna Torres left the building as free people. They walked as free people also, bluntly prepared to go the whole way back to the both shuttles.

Tom and B'Elanna walked side-by-side, hand-in-hand. Kathryn had her arm around Harry's shoulders, the adventure had taken hard on him.

As they closed the opening in the wall, Tom turned his head to the side, where he noticed something strange. "The ropes are gone."

"Somebody must have seen them." B'Elanna said easily, she felt happy and light-hearted. She almost danced where she walked, at least she had a spring in her steps. It was all over.

When they left Scrich's fort behind, a surprise awaited them.
At the barren ground, beside Cochran 2, stood Chakotay, Neelix and Kes, all smiles.

"What are you doing out here?" Janeway asked her first officer.

"We’ve collected the ropes and moved the shuttles. 'Coulee' is already home. Now we’re going there too."

"You really do work fast," she praised, appreciatingly.

The next day, in Janeway’s ready room, Chakotay, Bral and Scrich and the four adventures gathered.

"So, how did it go after we left you two alone to talk things over yesterday?" Kathryn asked, she felt fine after a good nights sleep.

"We’ve decided to reestablish our former exchange of products." Bral shared.

"I’m glad to hear it." Voyager’s Captain encouraged them. "Everything’s going to turn out great for your civilizations."

"And Bral and I also have decided to move on... As friends."

"I’m even more happier to hear that. Things will turn out just fine especially for you two, too."

Bral and Scrich smiled at each other, she was right; some day they might take their friendship to an even higher level, like they once had.

Kathryn turned around to replicate her guests some of the Alpha Quad’s finest things. Coffee and cinnamon buns.
Chakotay stopped her, tapping meaningly at her shoulder. To her, his pat said: 'Well, you at least managed to fulfill one of the things you told me about.'

"You can’t have it all..." She whispered.

It would be great to write a book! If I can come up with something original that takes long enough time to explain and finish, I might do it too, if not for anything else, so just for my own sake.
