Well the Baker and his wife have had a curse laid on their family tree by the witch next door, and she sends them into the woods to get the ingredients she'll need to break the spell. At first, the Baker refuses to let his wife come along, but after she helps him to find the items that they need, he finally grudgingly allows her to come along, and for "the two of them" to get the things they need to have the child.

"Into the Woods" is a great show.
