It most definitely does relate to this. You think people weren't scared this morning? I was scared as hell waiting for news on the shuttle. News anchors were crying. You think the astronauts in line for the next mission aren't scared? There's fear everywhere right now.

You won't find me being scared at the misfortune of others. It blew up, they died. I don't think it's gonna fall on me and I'm not going into space... Why should I be scared?

It's called empathy. Compassion. No one is saying be afraid as in like "stay in the house", stuff like that. I do beleive I said in 'general'. Seems you are not understanding what I am saying, so we'll just leave it at that.

i had just woke up (9:00a.m. central) and i waked into the living room and i set there and watched it all day long and i started to cry i felt so bad i hopethat NEVER happens agian. what were you doing when you heard about it?

I was asleep, even though it was 9 a.m. EST, (had been out til 2 a.m.).
My Dad woke me up and said they'd lost contact w/ the shuttle, so I went to the living room and put on CNN, and for some reason popped in a blank video. I did cry, though. Those poor people.

I woke up at 1:30 and i was on the phone with my friend and my dad just said "the Shuttle chashed today." I was in shock, I went to the tv and it was on like every station.

Either we or the Russians *have* to send a shuttle up again fairly soon----there are people on the ISS, and they either have to be brought down, or supplies brought up. They have an escape pod, but that's last-ditch stuff.

its very sad news and my heart goes out to freinds,families,colleges and ppl who knew them.they were v.brave and never will be forgotten.

History:The 45 yr old is a U.S. air force colonel and this was his 2nd trip to space.
Name:William.C.MCcool

History:40 yr old former test pilot. A U.S. Navy commander was responsible for manevvering the shuttle.

History:42 yr old went to space in 1998 shuttle flight this was his 2nd visit into space.

History:42 yr old, has logged more than 375 hrs in space in a shuttle flight in 1997.

History:46 yr old Navy captain 1st visit to space working on numerous biological experiments.

History:41,U.S. Navy commander and Flight surgeon, first trip into space.

When the flight Director made this coments about the shuttle accident, and thats all it was, and accident, sometimes bad things happens happen to people who do not, and should not have it happned to them. All shuttles flights have bin stoped and all suttles are being looked at with much detail. there havr bin rumours that NASA will present a new type of space craft that was to be unvalled later on in the year

Well, don't think that the shuttle program will resume any time soon. NASA needs its time to mourn, solve the mystery, and move on. But hopefully, such catastrophes can be avoided.
Such a shame.

A short time later, debris was seen falling from the skies above Texas. The Columbia is lost; there are no survivors.
"On board was a crew of seven: Colonel Rick Husband; Lt. Colonel Michael Anderson; Commander Laurel Clark; Captain David Brown; Commander William McCool; Dr. Kalpana Chawla; and Ilan Ramon, a Colonel in the Israeli Air Force. These men and women assumed great risk in the service to all humanity.
"In an age when spaceflight has come to seem almost routine, it is easy to overlook the dangers of travel by rocket, and the difficulties of navigating the fierce outer atmosphere of the Earth. These astronauts knew the dangers, and they faced them willingly, knowing they had a high and noble purpose in life. Because of their courage and daring and idealism, we will miss them all the more.

Also like was said, the shuttles cannot stop for long. Not with the ISS up there. Russia sent one up today.

Tragedies like this are a part of life. If we could go back and fix all of our mistakes we'd never learn anything. Lives will be taken as time progresses. It happens every day and it will continue to happen every day.

it is sad, but nasa will find out what went wrong, and overcome this. the challenger did not stop the flight program all together.
