She didn't want to leave entirley, just have her character cut back. DS9 was almost over, and Becker was just starting. It was a smart move on her part. She was shocked when they killed her character.

A little. They should have maybe just told who the Dax symbiont went to, or if they still wanted the emotional drama, they could have put it in a male. Would have been stranger than Ezri.
