PostMon Jan 27, 2003 6:45 pm    "Any Day Now" (song I wrote for a dear friend)

A friend of mine had to leave my life last year: he had a new job opportunity and it was the right thing for him to do, but I miss him terribly: my life just isn't the same. I wrote this song for him but I still haven't had the courage to record it and send it to him.

Any Day Now

Mem'ries of that morning
Flash inside my head
I'd needed sleep as usual
Felt a little sad

The show had just gone on and
I had been the star
And now that it was over
I was falling pretty hard

School was tiring as usual
Filled with sleepy eyes
But right before I went to lunch
I got a big surprise

"He's leaving," my good friend said
Eyes a little sad
"My momma said he's going away,
To find a better land."

Any day now
A change is coming
Perhaps the wind is carryin' a sudden cry
An ancient drummin'

Any day now
You might realize
Your time is not unending
Though your love is infinite in size

I just couldn't believe my ears
"He's leaving? Going where?"
I lvoed him as my brother and
I knew right then and there

That he had been my hope for the future
My mentor and my friend
Given me his knowledge and
And now it was the end

I love you so much Eric
The humour in your eyes
I hate the pain you've lived through
It always makes me cry

I wish you all the best Eric
Hope yuo find a dove
Give the world a hug for me
And don't give up on love

Any day now
etc.

I know I will still see you Eric
I know you won't be far
I know I'll always remember
You taught me how to be a star

Never fear that you're alone
You've got a friend in me
I know you'll find a soulmate Eric
No matter what some see

key change

We hope you know we love you Eric
We hope you know we care
We hope you know we always will
And we hope you know we're there

Good luck on your new journey
Reach out and take my hand
We will always remember you Eric
Okay shnukums? That's the plan

Any day now
etc.

Any day now
etc.

fade

I love you Eric.

(Here's the original description I included with the song:

I wrote this song shortly after I found out that Eric would be leaving in 2002. I was heartbroken at the time, but I was told repeatedly and finally came to realize that he will be in a wonderful job that he will love in the place that he's going, so I wrote a bit in the end about how much we love him but know that he'll be happy where he's going.

Eric worked at my school for about 4 years, and then moved to another one. He was a driving force behind the theatre and choral programs, and is a very good friend to my "other mom," Mrs. A. He was famous thorughout the school for his fabulous sense of humour, infectious personality, and high standards. But above all, he was known for being the least prejudiced human being the world has ever known. I learned so much from his candid talks about prejudice that I am now just as sensitive as he to the injustices of our world and the horrible miseducation of America's youth on many issues.

Eric, if you ever read this I hope you understand how much you have meant to our community, and to me. You will always be in my head and my heart (when I'm looking for my dentures in the nursing home I'll be telling my old and wrinkly roomate all about you), and I know you will become every bit as important to your new students as to your old ones. You are a fabulous person and a beacon for all, and I love you dearly. Thank you.)

He was such a wonderful person to have around.....oh boy. I'm gonna cry. Ok well I hope you like it.

I've thought about it...hmmm. I dunno: my ahndwriting is chicken scratch even when I try really hard. he he. But I'd rather record it, the only porblem is putting in the chords after the key change. Oy.

If he is your friend, you really should try to talk to him... as often as you need to.
