I'm sure I'm not the only person who has noticed how often Capt. Archer uses the word "ass". At first, I thought the producers insisted this word would be used to "spice up" the show--that is, to make it seem less nerdy. Of course, the way Scott Bakula delivers the line it ends up sounding nerdy anyway, but...

In "A Night in Sickbay", Captain Archer makes a terrible Freudian slip: "I'm doing the breast I can." He was obviously thinking about T'Pol's breasts at that moment. So it occurs to me, when Captain Archer is angry with T'Pol and talks about restraining himself from "kicking [her] ass", is that another Freudian slip? T'Pol has a rather prominent posterior, particularly with the clothing the producers tell her to wear.

Um. This thread will stay open as long as its civil, but I can see how this could go overboard fairly easily. Be careful.

Thank you for the guidance, mod Lindley.

I would be interested in hearing how everyone interprets Archer's repeated, peculiar use of "ass" in the show...Should he have threatened a woman (even a Vulcan woman) with physical violence in the first episode? That one probably raised a few eyebrows.

Archer may resent the Vulcans, but it seems odd that he would say "I'm going to kick your ass" to the first woman of that race he sees. Is any threat justified? What if he really got angry and called her a f****** c***? Not only would it be incredibly offensive, it is silly. It's almost comical, especially given Archer's character. It would be as outrageous as Reed going to Mayweather and offering an arm-wrestling contest.

I think there is more between Archer and T'Pol than meets the eye.

T'Pol would have defended him off effectively given that she is a vulcan and having great strength.

How do you know that she is the first vulcan female that Archer sees? That is very doubtfull.

If I went up to a random woman on the street and hit her over the head with a tire iron, it wouldn't matter if she was a black belt--all the jury would see is a man physically assaulting a woman. That's the impression I received when I witnessed Archer's little outburst.

As far as we know, T'Pol is the first Vulcan female Archer saw. Canon is only what we see on the screen. It's also possible that Archer only had animosity toward this particular Vulcan because he was ashamed at being sexually attracted to her. Archer is clearly a racist (or is that specist?), so he might be in denial.

Well, then again, it is the ENT, there ethics and behaivor are still more like ours then lets say Picards. Of course this is going to happen a lot, Archer is a red neck american character to me.

But it's like love or hate, now is that real or fake?
Cause it's a real thin line, but that's your choice to make.
The question at hand, help me understand, is this your plan?
I think I can, can I think, then I think I can.
