Life Must Go On...

Miral glanced up, her mind flying in five thousand different directions. Here mother and father, they were alive? She looked back at them, her eyes unsure.

" Miral?" Tom asked. " What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Tom sat down next to her, his eyes searching her's.

" You're.... you're dead." Miral whispered. " I don't understand."

" Miral, we're right here." B'Elanna smiled at her. " What are you talking about? You were dreaming." Miral looked back at her mother for a moment, unsure of what to say. She put a hand to Tom's arm and he was there. He wasn't a ghost.

" I don't understand." Miral whispered. " I thought you were... the ship... we were attacked." B'Elanna glanced over at Tom.

" I think you were dreaming." B'Elanna smiled. " We're right here." Miral searched both her parent's faces.

" Come on." Tom told her. " We're going to be late for work." Tom got up and helped Miral up.

The three got ready and started down the hall, Miral in a sort of dream daze. Everything around her seemed unreal, like she was in the middle of a really good dream. But everything she touched was real, it was there. The three exited onto the bridge and everything was where it had been, nothing was damanged. The entire crew was there, working buisily. Miral looked around the bridge trying to figure it all out.

" Well..." Tom clasped a hand on Miral's shoulder. " Let's get to work." Tom went his way and B'Elanna went her's. Miral stood a moment, unsure of exactly what to do. After what seemed like three hours Miral made her way over to her console.

Everything was normal, but how could it have been? Just a few hours ago the ship was in ruins. The crew had been dead but now they were all alive. Miral gave her arm a pinch just to see what would happen but it stung. She was still awake.

" I don't believe this." Miral whispered to herself before turning her attention to her work.

Miral found herself in the mess hall a few hours later, her hands gripping the hot glass in her hands. She didn't mind the heat and she didn't mind the burning that her hands were getting. She was trying to figure some things out. How could this have happened? She was there when the ship was destroyed. She was there when they had found her father's body. She had seen her mother's body.

" Miral?" Tom's voice broke through the silence and she glanced up at her father headed towards her. " Hey... what's going on?"

" That's what I'm trying to figure out." Miral whispered, more to herself than to her father. She took a sip of hot tea, the hot liquid burning her tongue but she didn't flinch. She didn't really care. " I thought... never mind." Tom looked at her, confused.

" Never mind what?" Tom asked, sitting down opposite her.

" I just... must have been a dream that's all." Miral tried to smile, her eyes drifting towards the window. As she watched they passed a nebula. " Hmmm... what one's that?" She asked her father.

" That's the Zandrine Nebula." Her father told her. Something clicked in Miral's head. She'd heard that name before.

" Have we passed it before?" She asked, turning her eyes again on her father.

" Nope." He told her. " What's going on? You've seemed really spacy today."

" Yea..." Miral nodded. " Just been thinking a lot. Sorry." Tom kept his eyes on her for a moment, trying to figure on what was wrong. He shook his head. " I'll be fine." She told him, standing up and starting to leave the room.

" Where are you going?" Tom asked, starting to follow her.

" Astrometrics." She told him. " I'll be back in a little while." Miral left the room with that, taking all her thoughts with her.
