Does anyone rememeber what DS9 looked like when they first got on board, it was all dark and uncheerful, now it's a place or fun and happyness

It was a very dark place. There is an episode where Odo has flashbacks of him working security for Gul Dukat. Forget which episode it is. I'm sure Lindley, Pah, or thegame knows.

But it's like love or hate, now is that real or fake?
Cause it's a real thin line, but that's your choice to make.
The question at hand, help me understand, is this your plan?
I think I can, can I think, then I think I can.

The Cardassians had looted everything when they pulled out. The place was a shambles.

Anyways, no problem Pah.

The Cardassians had no use for the station, or it's sister station, Empok Nor. Both stations were ore processing stations, and needed the Bajoran slave labor to run effectively. It made no fiscal sense to try and and move the station, and the withdraw was something of a hasty one, as it was clear that the situation was out of hand on Bajor. The Cardassians could have destroyed the station, but I imagine the Cardassian civilian government, which had decided on the withdrawl, would not have wanted that at the time. Central Command could have overruled the decision, but it did not.

I don't know which DS9 you saw, but DS9 still looks fairly dark, and doesn't have much "happyness" [sic].

You can't move a station from Bajor to Cardassia on thrusters, it would take several lifetimes.

The weapons you speak of were gutted by the outgoing Cardassians. If you recall from the early season 1 eps, especially "Emissary, part 2" the station was basically defensless. We don't see a large scale weapon program instituted on the station until after the Dominion were discovered in the season two finale "The Jem'Haddar". Those upgrades took a year to complete and were first used in the season 4 opener "The Way of the Warrior," and again in the season 5 finale "Call To Arms."

Any way you slice it, the Cardies screwed themselves by not blowing up DS9. If they blew up DS9, the wormhole (that they didn't know about) would not have been protected so well.

Not to mention how illogical it is to put a mining station in space, the one place where there's nothing to mine.

How did they get the station there in the first place. Something that large would have to be made in a shipyard. Surely that it can be towed at warp to a desired destination.

They used Bajoran labor to build it. Don't have to take as many safety precautions that way.

BTW DS9 was built in orbit of Bajor but was moved by the Starfleet crew when Sisko discovered the wormhole. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, O'Brien used the station's shield to alter its mass which made it easier to move through space with just thrusters...

Also DS9's promenade was not a merchant's dream during the Cardassian Occupation. Quark and Garak are about the only two who were able to maintain businesses during the Occupation. The Promenade's main function was housing and feeding of Bajoran slave labor. Once the Federation took control of DS9 it became more people friendly, but if you read anything about DS9, in almost all the books it is still called dark, mysterious and frustrating in its complex Cardassian design.

That's because the Cardassians didn't believe in lights! And the federation does so the turned the station lights on!
