USS Aegin? What episode was that ship from?
I thought the idea of the Prometheus class was a pretty good idea although I see you point about it being unable to "stick back together" if the middle piece got destroyed. I remember the ship from the DS9 book Millenium 2 The War of the Prophets, the USS Phoenix had multi vector assault mode and they ejected one of the sections cos it had romulans on or something....i havn't read that book in a while so I can't really remember it that well.

Does it really matter if it can't rejoin? All the sections have their own facilities, so why should it matter if they need to go back for repairs seperately?

Eh?

Anyway, you would think that they would design the ship to be able to join the saucer and lower engineering hull if the middle section were destroyed. But then, since all three sections have a warp drive unit, there would be no need to rejoin.....

i personally don't think that the prometheus is very practical. how can a ship have more firepower if it is in more than one part.

It provides smaller, faster, targets; each with the capability to sustain itself and go to warp. It has the same amount of firepower either way, seperated or unseperated; it's just a better way of utilizing it all at one time to seperate the ship.
