How does the replicator manage to reproduce both the molecular structure of an organic substance and the actual structure of the substance? I mean, you could program into the replicator the formula for meat with sauce on it, and (at least from what I've heard on TNG), it replicates the molecular structure right? So wouldn't you just get a pile of goo that was meat and sauce together in the same molecular creation? Just a question I thought I'd share.

It doesn't just give one overall pattern; it creates the meat and the sauce, then combines them in the way that it's programmed.

ok.....but how does is structure the meat and the sauce in a fashion mildly reminiscent of a piece of meat with sauce on it? How is the structure created, b/c every piece of meat is different?

Because the computer is programmed to make something that will not only look like meat with sauce on it, but will also have the same molecular makeup.

OK, this is how it works.

The actor presses a few buttons. Then they stop the camera, put a piece of meat with sauce in the little replicator area, then roll the camera again, and afterward, they add some special effects to make it look nice.

Replicators use light and artaficheal flaver to make it look smile and tast like food so you could be eating wood and you would not know it.

the replicator is programmed to seperate the dif things in whatever it is replicating so that it don't come out as a pile of crap

Wow, your technical knowledge is sad. You've answered only a few topics and magic has been your answer for two of them.

I alway presumed that the item was there it transported it onto a plate heated it up and transported it to a replucator

No, a replicator literally recreates the molecular composition of the food/drink/item.

My mistake I know transporters brake down a human's cells and then re-create them in a different place is that right

it doesnt reproduce the molecular structure, it can only produce inorganic things that why it cant produce dairy prodyucts like cheese!

In the first episode of Voyager, Tom replicates a bowl of tomato soup. Tomatos are organic...explain that one

Look people, this isnt star trek rocket science.

Replicators: Work like the transporter.

Think of it like this

The transporter stores your molecular pattern in its database until the full "transmission" is complete, then reassembles your structure in the correct order.

The replicator works in the same way. A molecular pattern is stored, but not too complex. (more like what was stated before. Lets take Macaroni and Cheese, mmmmmm. The noodles are created, then each noodle is coated with the cheese. One step at a time, one item is created)

It then creates the item you requested. For those of you who need a recap (because this can be a bit techincal)

The replicator works as the transporter. A molecular pattern is stored, then created.

For those who do know this, what about signal degridation? I'm not really sure, but I wouldn't think a database of information would degrade. Humans, yes, that is way way way too complex. But if they break it down (as mentioned before), it would be simpler.

Unlike the startrek universe, replicators will definitely be invented before transporters. The basic theory to them is simple. Each particle has an XYZ co-ordinate, just like a 3-d drawing on a cad program. The big problem with transporters is that they need to know where every single particle in an object is at 1 single time. Star trek gets round this with a Hiesenburg compensator. Michael Okuda was once asked how the Hiesenburg compensators worked. 'Very Nicely' he replied!

Ok, so I'm just being stupid now, but I think the replicators are duffed up because I don't tend to put *noodles* in *macaroni* cheese. Ah well. One man's cheddar is another man's edam.

A replicator can't happen, though, cause you can't create or destroy matter.
