I think the reason the ship is called enterprise is because the show take place like 5-10 years before the formation of the federation and the enterprise didnt have a fed. registration code so the first federation commisioned enterprise was Kirk's enterprise.

The whole idea of Trek is to expand and evolve on what it has already accomplished. With Enterprise, it does not do that. If you look at all the series it makes since. TOS showed and introduction to Starfleet, TNG displayed how exploration of the final frontier in 24th centry was possible, DS9 showed how war would be faught, and VOY explaned the life of a crew, their harships, their joys etc.. Enterprise will not live up to its expectations! They are before TOS and I think we will see some mistakes that contridict the series prior too (or in the timeline that come later) For example, they said Kligons in Enterprise will have the rigged foreheads, yet in TOS they were very different as I am sure you all remember! Thsy said it was Poetic lisence but I think it is wrong! This already shows that the show will not be a success if the writters cannot even make since out of it.

Enterprise will expand the early timeline though, There wasn't alot of information about that time in Startrek so they can invent alot of things.
Except for Klingons having ridges. That's not consistent.

TV guide is saying that this Enterprise will take place 100 years before Kirks era in the 22nd century just right after first contact with the Vulcans. The registery number is:NX-01.And it holds up to 70 or 80 they say. But what suprises me is where they got that design for that ship, because if anyone has a copy of Star Trek Armada for the PC game the ship design is the same in the 24th century ship. But overall it will be interesting to see this series.

I think that they should make a series based after TNG, so it will have the Enterprise F (E was used in Insurrection), with Riker as captain, as Patrick Stewart is retiring.
