I was wondering, does the stuff from the books incorperate itself into the actual Star Trek timeline? I have noticed a lot of contradictions and was just wondering what other people thought about it.

Well yeah there's contradictions. We see say Voyager do something before they got home that never happened or whatever. But you can't expect all the books to have a place in the timeline, because some of the books contradict each other. But I think some of them are in the timeline and some aren't.

Some of the books do contradict each other, and none of them are considered "official".

However, if you buy Gateways: What Lay Beyond, there's a timeline in the back that chronologically arranges every book released prior to that in relation to the various TV series.

I wish they would do something like the last few Babylon 5 books. The writers of those books were given guidelines by the series' creator. They would then go off and write the book. By doing this they managed to get rid of alot of the continuity errors and the books were pretty good as well. Mind you most of the earlier ones were, in my opinion, quite pathetic.
