one thing that has always confused me is how on those computer terminals that the captain has on his/her desk in the ready room.....ya know how it only has like, three buttons on it? Every time i see them using one, they only use one button, but it always does something different. How can this work?

Those consoles also have voice recognition and a touch screen, as well with the buttons. I'm guessing that the buttons are for activating the computer and for scrolling up and down.

A friend of mine designed the ultimate user-friendly computer years ago. It had only one button. He said, "Any idiot could use it. You either push the button or you don't!"

really I always think that when I see those. I'm thinking "Wouldn't the computer interfaces either be completely flat or better yet, have a holographic interface??" coz it's kind of weird to have a smaller computer NOW than in trek... doi

We also have holographic computer interfaces. A prototype was just designed for use in hospitals.

PostTue Jan 20, 2004 4:28 pm    TNG computer interface

I always assumed the computer interfaces in TNG were touch-screen based. Not much need for a keyboard when the computer speaks english.
