NO DONT U GET IT IF IT WERE LIKE THAT THEN IF U WERE IN A CAR U WOULD FLY TO THE BACK. THE LIGHT INSIDE THE SHIP GOES WITH THE SHIP, THUS GOING IN THIS CASE 6 TIMES ITS NORMAL SPEED. IF THERE WAS NO LIGHT THEN THE PEOPLE WOULD BE BREAKING THROUGH THE BACK OF THE SHIP GOING SO FAST. BUT THARE IS A LITTLE THING CALLED GRAVITY. HEY THAT IS A NEW TOPIC.

Actually, warp speeds are exponential. Warp 1 is the speed of light (c), Warp 6 is 392 x c.

If Warp 6 was only 6c, they'd never get anywhere. The nearest star system to Earth, Alpha Centauri, is 4 LY away---at 6c, it would take almost a year to get there.[/list]

yeah, it would be good if voyager could maintain warp 9.975 all the way home, it would only take them 13.5 years to cover 75,000 light years . and the E-E would take almost 10 years according to my calculations . goto http://ditl.org/scitech/datwarpscales.htm for the warp scales.

Warp Scale Time to cross Federation Space
(10,000 ly)

Full Impulse - 270 million km/h 40,000 years
Warp 1 - 1 billion km/h 10,000 years
Warp 2 - 11 billion km/h 992 years
Warp 3 - 42 billion km/h 257 years
Warp 4 - 109 billion km/h 98 years
Warp 5 - 229 billion km/h 47 years
Warp 6 - 421 billion kn/h 25 years
Warp 7 - 703 billion km/h 15 years
Warp 8 - 1.10 trillion km/h 10 years
Warp 9 - 1.62 trillion km/h 7 years
Warp 9.2 - 1.72 trillion km/h 6 years
Warp 9.6 - 2.05 trillion km/h 5 years
Warp 9.9 - 3.27 trillion km/h 3 years
Warp 9.99 - 8.49 trillion km/h 1 year
Warp 9.9999 - 214 trillion km/h 18 days
Warp 10 - Infinite 0

Just a few quick notes also:

Warp 1 = Speed of Light
Warp 6 = normal cruising speed of Federation starships
Warp 9.2 = normal maximim warp of Federation starships
Warp 9.9999 = subspace radio speed with booster relays
Warp 10 is unattainable, except with transwarp

That was from the Star Trek Encyclopedia.... hope it helped.

but there is inertial dampners, also if you are in a car moving 70 miles an hour you do not feel like you are moving, the same princaple aplys, the ship is moving and EVERYTHING in it is moving at the same speed, so everything looks like and feels like it's not moveing.

In theory a ship traveling at warp10 occupies all points in time and space. Therefore, not only would one be able to go anywhere instantly but also any TIME....
