how are the better then lasers and dos any 1 know how they work?

I don't know how they are better but.....
you set the levle of the beem you want, then when you fire it takes the energy from the power pack, the energy then travles down wires and gets built up in the pre-fire chamber, it then gose into the second pre-fire chamber(the better the weapon the more pre fire chambers the energy gose thrue) eventualy by the time it reaches the last chamber the energy has reached such a high concentration that it becomes a plasma, the plasma the jets from the focusing rod at a speed as fast(if not faster) then lightning.

whereas a laser is simply a beam of light which passes through a focusing crystal. The crystal amplifies the intensity of the light a couple thousand times, turning it into a destructive beam. On the pilot episode of TOS they are using laser pistols instead of phasers. they switch over after a little while tho...
Phasers are more energy efficiant, more lightweight, more powerfull, and can be made smaller. Plus lasers arelike bullets, there is no stun setting. you either hit and seriously hurt them or you miss.

Phasers are energy, lasers are light.

Phaser =Fires a beam of phased energy

according to the http://ditl.org, this is how they work:
Phaser energy is released by the rapid nadion effect. Rapid nadions are short lived subatomic particles which can liberate and transfer strong nuclear forces within a class of crystals called fushigi-no-umi.
they are better because they release energy rather than light. therefore the capabilitys of a phaser are much higher.
