They couldnt fire the Phasers in TMP because they were tied into the Warp drive which was causing the Worm hole to begin with. In TOS, those were the phasers being fired, they just weren't steady til later in the series. Just shots.

They were phasers. They just looked like that. They fired in rounds instead of a steady stream until further on in the series.

yes, but they looked like torpedoes, but that was jsut another thing they changed lata on to make them staedy stream pahsers so people can distinguish.

and why did they make it easier for people to notice? because people were asking that same question back then, so instead of letting people deal with it they changed it.
and she's right, when they went into warp drive the phasers were taken offline, the command was changed at the last second, not by kirk, to save the lives of the crew
