Tue Nov 12, 2002 4:22 pm Dominion Rebirth? |
|
I am perplexed as to why people constantly convey the notion of a new Voyager fabrication. In the current Star Trek time-line (Star Trek Nemesis), the Borg threat is negligible, since Star Fleet have designed phase-plasma torpedo technology. Ok granted, it is not as advanced as the TRANSphasic torpedo seen in the last episode of Voyager and it has not yet been properly commissioned, but it is readily available if needed. This rules out a possible war with the Borg and so the next best thing would be an invasion by the Romulans. I would argue that a new series should concentrate on the new Sovereign class, Prometheus class or even Akira MK 2 if it should be created. This new series should perhaps focus on a Dominion Rebirth, because we will already see a Romulan invasion in the Nemesis movie.

The Dominion kicked ass! If there was a future series that featured their rebirth I'd definitely watch it.
Maybe someone could create a RPG about this in the holodeck section.

Just so you know, the Prometheus class was never put into production because of design flaws. If anything the next series will be based on the future during the time of Daniels on Enterprise featuring the Premonition class and the Wells class.

For the record, the Dominion isn't destroyed. They were defeated in the Alpha Quadrant, but they still have a power base in the Gamma Quadrant.

That's true, but can the Dominion really be trusted to honour the treaty at all!

Well with odo in the link now, they will understand the humans and be at peace with them more then ever, and as we all know the changelings control the dominion.

the Enterprise E should go through the wormhole and do some damage . well, take the cloak off the defiant and fit it to the sovereign first, that would be cool

Didn't the defiant get the cloaking device from the romulans by some agreement? If so wouldn't take it off the ship be an act of war against the romulans?

The cloaking device was destroyed along with the original Defiant in "The Changing Face of Evil". The Defiant-class Sao Paulo, which they renamed Defiant, didn't have a cloak.

The "new" Defiant did not have a cloak, hence the NCC designation. The whole reason Defiant was an NX during its entire operation was because it was the only Starfleet ship with a cloaking device.
Of course, it is non-canon but the Dominion and the Federation are currently at peace and exploration of the Gamma Quadrant has resumed with Defiant (now complete with new cloak) taking point in the new venture. Odo has "assigned" a Jem Hadar to DS9 and the future appears to be one of learning and tolerance. For now, at least, the Founders are content to stay where they are and comtemplate whether they were truly wrong about the solids for millenia or not (the jury is still out on that one).
Anyone interested in furthering the DS9 stories can read starting with Avatar I and II. Mission Gamma is the new series on the DS9 relaunch.
PS - The Voyager relaunch should start sometime this year (I say sometime because the date keeps getting pushed back).

^Actually Defiant was the prototype of it's class thus the NX registration, not because it had the cloak.

True that Defiant was a prototype for its class and that it was INITIALLY an NX because of that, but we have seen other NX ships recieve the OK for an NCC registration (namely the USS Excelsior).
Starships only retain the NX designation for as long as they remain testbeds for new and different technology (the cloak, the retrofitted shuttlebay, weapons sytems).
BTW that is from the DS9 Tech manual (I'm not just making this up).

As far as weaponry, the Sovereign class still uses photon and quantum torpedoes and standard phasers in 2379, the year of Nemesis. See the film and you'll notice that there have been no changes to the Enterprise's weaponry since First Contact, except that we see forward firing photons in conjuncture with the quantums.
The year extrapilation is based upon several variables, first is a time mention by Picard in Nemesis, where he thanks Riker for being his XO for 15 years, (TNG started in 2364, add 15 to get 2379) and the overall Trek timeline, which had DS9 ending at the end of 2375 and Voyager ending at the end of 2377, in 1999 and 2001 respectively, if anyone cares.
While the Federation's flagship vessle may still have the basic weaponry and defenses we all know and love, the Reman flagship, Cimitar, was not nearly as predictable. But I won't spoil it for those of you who have not yet had the privilage to see Nemesis yet. The Cimitar will stun you, however, as will the NEW Romulan warbird, which was kind of wimpy combared to the D'Deridex class Warbird from TNG and DS9 in my opinion.

well yeah, but compared to the E-D, the E-E has mark 12 phasers which are a lot more powerfull than the old mark 10's on the galaxy.
also the galaxy did not have quantum torp's. the quantum torp's on the sovereign dramatically increase it's firepower, not to mention that the sovereign can fire more torpedos faster at once.

We had not seen quantum torpedoes at the time of the E-D's destruction in 2371, and even after they did not seem to get installed on other Galaxy's during the Dominion War, I rememeber a Galaxy taking out a Cardassian Weapon Platform in "Tears of the Prophets" with 3 or 4 photons, by this time we'd seen Quantums on the Defiant, the Excelcior class USS Lakota, also of course on the E-E, but photons still seem to be the torpedoe of choice in Starfleet even as late as 2379. Interesting.

Yes this is all and good, but as far as Voyagers new technology we can assume that it is still being improved upon at the daystrom institute. As for Nemesis being a Romulan Invasion, I saw it more as a Reman Invasion, although when the Romulans take over the senate once again we can assume that all the Reman Technology will be carried over into standard Romulan vessals, so they will be ever so powerful into the future.
