PostThu Sep 19, 2002 9:24 pm    OMG, we just created antimatter!!!

I was reading the newspaper, and guess what, a swiss lab has just produced Antimatter!!!
Now we can test if that would work for powering a warp engine!!!

well antimatter was created but it was only a few atoms and it took so much energy to create they still have a long way to go before there is enough to test a warp engine.

its a start though

I know that they have had it but not in this quantity or of this atom, it is becoming more practical to produce

in the 30's they had less knowlege of atoms, and sub-atomic particles as they have know.so it only makes sense that it took them that long

I read an article on this. Its specifically said that they aren't even close to being able to power a starship with it. However, *if* they actually did make a large quantity of antihydrogen-----the experiment hasn't yet been reproduced-----it would at least be a step towards understanding antimatter.

We wouldn't be able to use warp engines anyway, we have no way to sheild a ship from space debri. At warp speed it would totally rip the hull apart.
Plus we need to invent stuctural integrity fields and inercial dampeners before we can make a succesful warp flight.

But that's just little me's opinion...

Here's my 2 cents

Antimatter being produced is no news.

It has been produced for several years.

The Problem is that it takes millions and millions to produce just 1 mg

Also the production rate is incredibly slow. In one year we produce 1 mg. At this rate it will be centuries before we can try Antimatter as a power source.

Hope this helped

i don't think we will make ever enough antimater to power a warpdrive

we can try but i don't gonna think it is working

We would also need to find a way to create a warp buble which would alow the ship to move frictionless thrue space, and we would need to create a metle that could withstand the taring force of the engins.

Actually it has been repeated several times, this time, the proccess was refined so that the use of antimatter could actually become practical.

they should bast the ship desighn on a fighter jet(light fast armoured armed and cool)

There will never be Warp flight!!!!!!!!!!! Scientence have a great understanding of the Universe. And Warp drive contradics aal theroys stated in Quantium Pysics. So it is not possible to have Warp drive. But Anti-matter is a great source of power.

that is incorrect. i have read many conflicting reports, however we can use negative energy to make warp possible. and i don't think we will beable to use anti-matter easily. you have only seen one side of the story. however, we will need more than 50 years to achieve warp power!

It needs time, but I think that it can be achieved

yeah, people were skeptical about is flying possible, until the wright bros. proved the world wrong. and, i believe that einsteins theory that the speed of light is the fastest speed has been proved wrong also, so u never know...

People also used to think that the world was flat. The only thing that hampers our progress, is our own denial and fear of it.

PostSun Oct 20, 2002 9:36 pm    Warp flight

You guys are forgeting one thing, antimatter exists in its own form naturally, but we can't harvest it. You see, the event horizon of a black hole is composed entirely of antimatter, that is why everything is destroyed at that point (no its not gravometric pressure) also, deuterium which is req'd to operate a warp drive (theoretically operate) already exists. Its just another name for heavy hydrogen.

Dunno if u already knew that.
