it is exatly what it sounds like. polorised metle.

You run energy thrue the mettle so the phaser energy is obsorbed by the hull better.

More technically:

The hull is given an electric charge, to neutralise any energy weapons (which must also be positive or negative), and to align the atoms in the hull with one another, which makes it a LOT stronger, as there's more forces holding it together.

The prob with energy weapons is that you can't be sure whether they're +ve or -ve, but this doesn't really matter - if they are the same sign as the hull, they'll reinforce the plating. If opposite, they'll cancel each other out; this would eventually wear down the plating because you can't put infinite energy into keeping the hull polarised.

They actually do this a bit today. If they polarize the body of a tank, it makes it stronger.

In the next 50 years when they complete the research in to the antimatter powered star ship (and believe me, they are getting close), they will probably use polarisation to protect the ships hull from small rocks etc.

However, I doubt deflector control will be possible for at least 500 years, it is just too advanced.

^Shields like the ones on Startrek aren't that far away from being developed.

But it's like love or hate, now is that real or fake?
Cause it's a real thin line, but that's your choice to make.
The question at hand, help me understand, is this your plan?
I think I can, can I think, then I think I can.

I disagree making shields is only a theory and polmyrazing the hull of something is possible but can't do it on a tank because the generator used to make it possible is probbably big as the tank.

Actualy we could do it to a tank but polerising the hull of a tank would do nothing to stop an armor percing bulet.

If you stick a battery on it, depending on what side its on, you'll charge it or fry it.
