I think DS9 is alot more sophisticatedin a way than voyager, but there both very good! DS9 has more real life situations and messages .i.e Racism, pressure Ect..

Ds9 is also a breakthrough for sci-fi series coz at least the very main character ie Sisko is a black captain coz TV can sometimes be prejudice towards minoritys
also what episode did it cover racism Scott? or are you on about far beyond the stars

I always considered DS9 to be the best Trek, although I have yet to see a good deal of Voyager's first two seasons. DS9 had the distinction of being unlike any other Star Trek series as it relates to plot lines and the overall mood of the show. The darker, more realistc story arcs were easy to indentify with. The characters were largely diverse, from Quark to Odo, Kira to Sisko, even Bashier to O'Brian. No other Trek series has been as original, though provoking or intriuging as DS9.

Although DS9 had it's share of bad episodes, I think looking back DS9 probably had more "really good" episodes than the other series.
Also, another thing I liked about DS9, that the other series were/are lacking, are the plots and story arch that extended through many episodes. You really had to watch previous episodes to get a good understanding of what was going on sometimes. This could have been a reason why DS9 was not really appreciated by more causual fans that would catch an episode here and there and expected a story from begining to end in 60mins.

Luckily for me, I'm not one of them. I think that the Dominion war parts ROCKED!
Although the early seasons were soooooo boring.
Especially with those whinging Bajorans!

I like DS9's atmosphere--it's definitely better than Voyager. The characters are more complex, and the species are more interesting.

While there's no question that DS9 is very different than Voyager, I think the reason so many people hold low opinions of it is that its not as acessible a show. The ongoing story arcs can confuse newcomers, but for loyal fans, it adds a depth to the show that its rare to find in purely episodic TV.
Add to that the fact that its hardly on anywhere these days, and, well, you can see the problem.
