Anyone notice how the only time in any star trek where they mention any directive is when they are about to break it?

Normally in the Alpha Quadrint they have a special division that investigage encounters with time travel. It is forbidden to change anything in time because the possibility exsists then that, that future will no longer exsist and that can effect billions of people.

The Prime Directive Is A Rule That If Broken Can Alter Time So Much With Just 1 Sentance Told To SomeOne From The Past About The Future It Could Change The WHOLE Galazy

The TEMPORAL Prime Directive can change history. Look at "Year of Hell Parts 1 & 2" in voyager. Very good episodes. It deals with time travel and the effects. But, as always, everything turns out ok. Boo!!! Let a main character die!!!

I've noticed that. But then, if they're not about to break the directive, what's the point in mentioning that?

I say that the Federation should allow time travel only when calculated extremely carefully and only in times of war or any other emergency.

Sounds reasonable.

its just the good old prime directive, applied to time travel. Basically: Don't mess with things out of your normal place in the timeline.

Indeed there are as seen in trials and tribulations ds9 however many starfleet officers who do not work for TI have duties to stop people from corrupting the timeline
