The following is my attempt at a J/C romance. I will try to add more when I can.

Kathryn woke with a start, she had had the same nightmare again. In this dream she was visiting sickbay, and talking to the Doc. He diagnosed her with a rare uncurable heart disease, and she had only hours to live. On her deathbed she said her confesions, and when it was Chakotay's trun her heart stopped beating. She was nothing but a spirit rising from her body.

An eerie voice said, "You too late, you waited too long to confess your undying love to him. Too late, your too late.."

Then she always wakes up. This dream sent her immediatly from the bed to the replicator for a cup of coffee. Today she hopped into a cold shower, and put on her uniform. Her hair looked like a twister had gone through it, and her eyes bloodshot. She fixed her hair untill it was 'presentable' but the redness in her eyes would not cease. She thought nobdy would notice so she made her way to the bridge. Chakotay, Tuvok, Tom , and Harry were there, busy standing at their stations. She took her seat, but the ever-watchful Chakotay saw her eyes. After she had gotten confortable Chakotay leaned over and whispered.

"What's the matter?"

"Oh, replicator's jammed up, hadn't had the miracle they call coffee yet."

"I see, anything else?" He asked.

"Do your people think that a dream could tell us things?"

"Some do, they think that a dream could be a prediction, or a message from a spirit." He explained.

Kathryn looked into the eyes of Chakotay, he was her extra well of strength, her gurdian in a uniform. She gave him a smirk, and stared at the view screen. She wanted to scream out her undying passion, confess to years of hiding her true feelings. She wanted to fell Chakotay's sweet lips on her own, but she held herself back. She wanted to tell her head to shut up and let her heart to the talking, but she didn't think that it was acceptable. So she didn't say a thing.

"Kathryn, your not telling me everything, what's troubling you?" He asked.

"Like I said, no coffee. And..." She trailed off.

"Let's speak in your ready room. An upset Captain makes her first officer sad as well, and I've got to be truthful, I hate beign sad, and I know that you do to." He explained, trying to look comforting.

"Alright, you win, we'll talk. Tuvok." She agreed.

"Yes Captain?" He asked, in his usual Vulcan manner.

"You have the bridge, the Commander and I need to speak." Kathryn replied. She and Chakotay got up and went to her ready room. All the way there she tried to find the right words, but thought of none. As soon as she entered her ready room Chakotay spoke.

"Kathryn, you must tell me whats bothering you. You know that I'll do everything in my power to help you through." Said Chakotay.

"Chakotay, for the past few days I have been having an....unsettling nightmare. This dream is so real, and to be truthful, its scary." She explained, opening up.

"Dreams can often deceive us, and point us down the wrong path. Other times they try to warn us, or give us a clue on what to do."

"But this dream, its so lifelike, and when my spirit.." Then she realized she had said too much.

"You dreamt about dying? Didn't you?" Asked Chakotay.

"Well, yes I did. But it was what I heard the scares me. It makes me so nervous, and jumpy." She replied. Then she brought her finger to her mouth and chewed on her nail.

"Kathryn, you are extremely nervous, your chewing on your nail. If my memory is right, you dropped that habit a long time ago. You only do it when extremely nervous, am I making you uncomfortable?" He asked.

Kathryn looked deep into Chakotay's eyes, and what she saw brought a smile to her lips, for she saw: compassion, kindness, admiration...and perhaps? Love? She wanted it so much to be true, and yet her head told her to shut up. Well head, she thought, you shut up.

"Chakotay, have you ever had a secret the eat away at your heart? That you wanted to tell so much, but certain things held you back?" She asked, tears burning her eyes.

"You know I have a rather large secret, and would love to tell. But rules of the heart and mind hold you back. For you don't know how they'll react?" He asked, saying exactly what Kathryn was feeling. Kathryn sat on her couch, and Chakotay sat beside her, a little close, maybe too close.

"Chakotay." She began, but then Tuvok contacted her over her combadge.

"Tuvok to Janeway." He said.

Kathryn sighed, "Go ahead Tuvok."

"Sensor's have detected a shpere closing in, and a small planetary system, the Borg maybe headed for it." Tuvok explained.

"On our way." Replied Kathryn. Her and Chakotay got up and reported to the bridge, and set a course for the sphere.

Will Kathryn ever confess her love? And what about Seven of Nine, and her feelings for Chakotay? The answers soon.

As Kathryn walked to the bridge her mind was on Chakotay, and how he seemed to understand. When they got to the bridge the sphere was on the viewscreen, and Kathryn and Chakotay sat down.

"How long untill they reach the planet?" Kathryn asked.

"About fifteen minutes, maybe less." Replied Harry.

Kathryn cursed under her breath, "How are they for weapons?"

"Three forward phasers, and a tractor beam." Said Tuvok.

"And sheilds?" Asked Chakotay.

"Oddly enough, they are down to fifty percent, and could be easily taken out." Said Kim, raising his eyebrows.

"Tom, set in an intercept course, warp seven." Ordered Kathryn.

"Aye, Captain. Setting in course." Tom pushed the buttons to set in course, and Kathryn's mind was racing. Within five minutes they were at the sphere.

"Hail them." Kathryn ordered, standing up.

"They are replying." Said Tuvok.

"On screen." It was the hive mother, and she seemed upset.

"This is Captain Kathryn Janeway, of the Federation Starship, Voyager."

"I know who you are, and advise you not to interfere. This is none of your concern." She replied.

"I disagree, and you know that the ship is weak." The veiwscreen blinked off, and brought up the sphere.

"They are charging weapons." Said Tuvok.

"Target their weapons, and fire." Voyager fired at the sphere, and took out their weapons.

"They are retreating." Said Harry, smiling. Kathryn relaxed.

"Stay where we are, and inform me of anything." Kathryn ordered. She got up and left the bridge, thinking to her self. She went down to the mess hall for some coffee. When she got their Chakotay was talking to Neelix.

"Hello Commander, will you be joining me for dinner?" She asked.

"Sorry Captain, I'll have to take a raincheck." He replied.

"Oh, alright. See you tommorrow." She replied. Pouring herself a cup of
coffee. She took it to her quarters, and sat on her couch. She picked up her PADD, and on it was the sphere's satistics.

"This makes no sense." She muttered. She thought to her self, 'Maybe Seven could shed some light.' She put down her coffee and headed towards the cargo bay. When the doors opened she seen a shocking sight, Chakotay. Not just talking to her, kissing her. A knot formed in her throat, and she turned around and left. She didn't cry untill she returned to her quarters. She laid on her bed and sobbed, she was too late. Chakotay was in love with Sevne of Nine, an unlikely couple, but all the same she wanted to be happy for them. All she felt towards them was dissapointment, and envy towards Seven. More o9f the dissapointment was directed at herself, and she felt so alone, she knew that whatever feelings she had for Chakotay would have to be put to rest. Buried in her putaway heart. She didn't feel like eating so she went to bed. Yet again she had the nightmare, but this time Seven was at Chakotay's side.

The next day....

Kathryn woke, depressed, and had a cold shower. She put on her uniform and got herself a cup of coffee. The warm liquid felt good, and there was a beep informing her that some on was at her door.

"Come in." She said without any enthusiasm. It was Chakotay.

"Good morning Kathryn." He said, smiling.

"Morning." She replied, looking away.

"You up for breakfast?" He asked, still smiling. Kathryn didn't feel like smiling, and to be truthful, she didn't want to talk to Chakotay right now.

"No, I'll see you on duty." Kathryn said, still not looking at the one she loved.

"Okay, but before I leave, what's bothering you?"

"Nothing. Now you can leave. I've had coffee, and I'll see you on duty." She answered harsher than she intended to. Chakotay nodded and left.
Kathryn felt even more terrible, regretting what she said.

Chakotay felt awful, and knew that he did something wrong. 'Oh', he thought, 'she must have seen Seven and I last night, but then why would she be upset? Unles....' He stopped in his tracks, in front of the turbolift. Unless Kathyrn had feeling for him. In his heart he knew that he loved Kathryn, not Seven. Seven was just a good friend, not a lover, 'but how to tell them? Without them both hating me?' He thought.

How will Chakotay tell Seven? How will she react? What about Kathryn, will she accept Chakotay's love for her? More to come.

Kathryn walked on to the bridge, her eyes blood shot, heart broken, and blood full of caffine. She took her chair, and stared ahead. She didn't even glance at Chakotay as he sat down beside her. Chakotay leaned over.

"Captain with all du respect, what the hell is going on with you, one day your happy as can be, next day you ignore me, what's the matter?" Chakotay asked, as nicely as he could. When Kathryn faced Chakotay her eyes were full of tears, none running down her cheeks.

"I.....just, don't feel well. My...uh....sister is ill." She lied, and faced forward.

"Alright, if you don't want to talk to me. I'll just have to talk to somebody else. Maybe they'll tell me what's wrong with you."

"Like I said, my sister is ....." But Chakotay cut her off.

"Just fine. You told me how well she was last week, and if my memory serves me correctly, she was in perfect heath." He replied, sounding firm.

"But..you just wouldn't understand, you have somebody..." She trailed off, a single tear slid down her cheek.

"I see what this is about, could we speak alon?" He asked, glancing at Tuvok, who had been 'overhearring' their conversation.

"Alright, Mr. Tuvok, you have the bridge, unless the matter is VERY important, leave us be." She ordered, leaving the bridge. As soon as she entered her readyroom she turned to Chakotay.

"Chakotay, I don't know how to say this." She said, they were only inches apart.

"Then don't say a thing, tell your head to shut up and let your heart do the talking." He replied. As if on cue, she brought her lips to Chakotay's, and she had the kiss she only dreamed of. He lips were so sweet, and so gentle, so passionate. Chakotay thought to himself, 'Finally the lips of the woman I love.'

Kathryn thought, 'To hell with protocalls, this is what I've always wanted.'
The kiss seemed to last forever, in a good sense. Chakotay slowly drew Kathryn closer, but she lost her balance, and fell on top of him. She laughed, Chakotay made sure that Kathryn was alright, they didn't get up, never let their lips part, Chakotay brought his hand to Kathyrn's thigh, but she pushed his hand away, she got up, and brushed herself off.

"I'm sorry, its all happening so fast." She said, offering him her hand.

"Well take things slowly." He replied. Getting to his feet.

Now that Chakotay and Kathryn know this was meant to be, how will Seven take this? More to come.

"Since Mark, I know. I'll take it turtle speed if it means being with you, for we have something deep, love and respect."

"Chakotay, what are we going to do about Seven? She does have feelings for you, I...well...sort of seen you in Cargo Bay. Let's just say you guys were, expressing your feelings." She hinted, walking towards the replicator.

"Seven knows how I feel about you, and I think she knows something else." He replied, looking away, Kathryn replicated themselves a glass of wine.

"I don't want any secrets between us. You can tell me." She walked over to the couch, and took a seat.

"Well, this is embarrassing. I didn't go sleep thinking Seven's kiss, I went to sleep dreaming of yours." He answered, sitting beside her.

"I see. But still, she must know, its not right to keep this from her. Something also tells me Tuvok has his suspicions. He didn't look happy about us going to my readyroom, and the logical explanation is, that there is something between us." She explained. Chakotay put his arm around her, drawing her close.

"I love you." He whispered in her ear.

More to come, I promise. What will Seven do? Is the suspense killing you yet?

Seven walked to the Mess Hall for her usual 'nutritional supplement'. Neelix was speaking with Harrry and Tom, and Seven got her supplement. She thought something was wrong with her cordical node because she kapt re-living Chakotay's kiss over and over again. She loved the taste of his lips on her own, and wanted it to happen agian, soon. The Captain walked in the Mess Hall, and walked over to the kitchen. Neelix turned to her and said,

"Good morning Captain. Can I convince you to eat some of my famous Lactalian omlette?"

"No thank-you Mr. Neelix, just coffee. Extra sugar, I feel like something sweet today." She replied, smiling. Neelix eyed her suspiciously, and got her her coffee.

"Here you are, why so happy today Captain?" Neelix asked.

"Well.....let's just say everything is going my way." But then she saw Seven sitting alone at a table, "Well almost everything." Kathryn wondered if Chakotay had talked to Seven already. So she went over and sat across from her.

"Good-morning Seven."

"Morning Captain, I fixed the small problem with the internal dampeners." Seven replied.

"Good work. So, how are you?"

"Physically alright, is there any toxins I should know about?"

"No, just seeing how you are. Well I better get to the bridge." She said and got up.
When the turbolift doors opened there was Chakotay.

"Bridge?" He asked.

"Yes." She replied.

"Computer, the bridge." He replied. Kathryn had to talk to him.

"Computer, stop turbolift." She said, taking in a deep breath.

"What's wrong?" Chakotay asked.

"Have you talked with Seven yet?"

"Uhh...no. It's difficult, and you know I don't want to hurt her."

"I know Chakotay, just promise you'll talk to her."

"Alright,"

"Today, I want you to speak with her today." Kathryn said, and she saw that impish glint in Chakotay's eyes.

Will Chakotay speak with Seven? How will she react? Those secrets and more revealed when I return.
