Hi. I was just watching Broken Bow again last night and I was wondering what the little laser cannon things are (hey great descriptive comments there)-the things they shot at the Suliban ships with...and where do they fire from on the ship (I thought it was just below the Bridge part although I cannot be sure). Ok thanks all...

I'm not sure, I thought they must have been torpedos, but they did look a bit like energy weapons.

Well, they have torpedoes and phase cannons (primitive phasers).

Maybe later on ing the series they'll make more but it is very unlikely.

In 'broken bow' through 'silent enemy' all the weaponry they had was torpedoes. At the end of 'silent enemy' they got their phase cannons (primitive phasers) online. So far though, they have only torpedoes and phase cannons. they don't even have photons yet.

Yeah, Well it is only the 22nd century y'know!

I have always though that I would like to go back to 1939 in a shuttlecraft and kill all the baddies (Germans and stuff) with my phasers bafore aeverything got out of hand!

I bet that if people are given access to 24th centruy style holodecks that's the first thing they'll do right after the sex (<--sorry) simulations!

What is the Prime Directive???

No, I just mean that breaking it is fun, y'know, disrupting the beliefs of pre-warp civilisations.

I think they might also have had a plasma cannon, which would be what they used in Broken Bow. However, such a weapon would be more effective at getting attention than in actually doing damage.

Oh, i didn't know that, and Phenox that was what they had, you can't blame them, however i think they should have kept the gun, until they were able to develop the phaser.

But, scientic speaking plasma is by far powerful enough to hurt someone, it can melt through anything and is only contained but a speacial chemical.

Well I found this website which talks about the ENterprise's specifications and it describes the laser things as pulse lasers. Here's the link:
http://home.att.net/~enterprise1701d/Nx-01/techspec.html
Gives quite a bit of other info on the ship as well....quite a cool site really

I might have a look later...

Anyway, I changed my mind over the whole new weapon thing now. They will most probably upgrade them but there will be no NEW weapons as such.

Think, throughout every series there have been phasers and photon torpedoes, seeing as they are going into the past It's not very likely.

They are just trying the weapons out and seeing how the weapons work and operated. Thats what I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if, after the start of the Romulan War, the Enterprise is equipped with nuclear torpedoes.

You think? I thought it would look pretty cool. Didn't that Romulan Bird of Prey in "Balance of Terror" use a nuke?

dude, nukes exist now! whats so cool about them? Besides, most star trek weapons are far more destructive (and less messy) than a nuke!
