PostThu Aug 15, 2002 1:24 am    Rick Bermen has gone crazy!

I don't really like "Enterprise" First of all the theme song isn'teven Star Trekie. Second, why we've never heard of Enterprise? Could be because of First Contact, The First ship was mentioned BTW in the Series 5 finale of Voyager, the U.S.S. Dauntless NX-01-A - presumably a tribute to the U.S.S. Dauntless NX-01; that would explain why the crew didn't react to the ludicrous registry by saying "hang on a mo, the NX-01 was called 'Enterprise' - because it never WAS. I swear I wont brake if I see Berman or cross the road! Also if u look on Picards walls on the D and E. There is no sign of the NX - 01 enterprise. The earliest is the U.S. Carrier and the next is Kirks Enterprise. The Barstewards! They make so many continuity errors between the series.
http://www.stinsv.com/TNg/640ship/obsloun.jpg
And heres another one:

In trials and tribillations we learn that Klingons didnt always have rigid foreheads as we see the TOS klingons and O'brien asks y they havent got ridges. Worf just gets a bit pissed off and doesnt say aything. However, in Enterprise on Broken Bow there is a klingon with a blatantly rigid forehead! Tell me why this is! Someone please! I always assumed that something genetic happened that affected the klingons to make them like that. Thats why they were flat in TOS and when they decided to be imaginative in TNG they created the reason that they evolved or has a genetic disaster. I always thought that until ENT. Now I don't know what to think. But I have a theroy, has anyone noticed that they seem to become more severe as time progresses? General Chang hardly had any ridges, as was the case with Krudge in ST III. Then, when TNG starts, we see Worf with the Himalayan mountain range sticking out of his forehead. Maybe in the future they'll become something like a really ugly unicorn. I don't think Enterprise should be called NX-01. If there have been generations of merchant ships out there, I doubt Enterprise is Starfleet's first vessel. It's the fastest and most advanced so far and the first sent out there specifically with "To Boldly go-seek out new life" exploration mission. It's cool that it's named enterprise--I think registry isn't well thought out... Then there is the Ferangi (I cant spell it) well they NEVER should have met them. Enterprise screwed up the WHOLE timeline and it pisses me off. How about the TNG episode,"The Last Outpost" , Picard says this is first time seeing a Feringi, but in the one episode of Enterprise(can't remember the name) they encounter the Feringi. ????????? i like to think of the enterprise (nx-01) as an alternate timeline or hopefully the ship gets sucked into a temporal vortex and gets lost in time but I don't think its going to happen. Back tothe Klingons, I was going to say that perhaps Tiny Lister's Klingon (Broken Bow) was of a small number of Klingons that were changing, but after seeing the high council with ridges, it doesn't seem likely. I think Berman is rewriting Roddenberry's dream to suit his personal ideals, but then who give any credence to the new series if the props looked as untechie as they did in TOS, even so Enterprise's equipment still manages to look way more advanced than Kirk's era!!! One thing about the Klingons is that Worf never explained why the Klingons did not have ridges in Kirk's time, perhaps it was an attempt by a faction to genetically change Klingons to be more human-like so that they could infiltrate the federation, and Worf was embarressed because these were not the actions of a proud warrior race, I mean that old guy with the tribbles was a Klingon, so i guess anything was possible even in that timeframe.

hmmm i think i found the logic behind enterprise

Berman: well starwars is doing it why cant we?

The show is interesting but it really can piss me off!

ok you make some great points and I have to agree that RIck Berman has screwed LOTS of things up which really annoys me, he just can't seem to stick to the timeline, and he knows he's messed up and thinks that he can get away with it

I admit I didn't finish reading your entire post 'cause I'm in a hurry, and I've probably heard all those points before on TrekBBS. However, regardless of percieved violations, that isn't going to stop me from watching the show on its own merits.

Oh, and you may want to pick up the new TOS trilogy "Errand of Vengence". Books 2 and 3 contain a few Enterprise references----for instance, when Kirk asks about the armament of an older Starbase, they reply "Phasers, and a few old-style Phase Cannons." To which Kirk asks, "Torpedoes?" and they reply that they have launchers but no warheads.

In other words, the reason we haven't heard of Enterprise before is because they weren't planning to make the show back then. If you prefer a Trek explanation, well, can you tell me who's the captain of the USS Thuderchild, and its registration number? No? Then why is it so surprising you haven't heard of Archer?

Kay, I just read the entire post. You pretty much summarized everything that's been said at the TrekBBS Enterprise forum for the past 10 months. I've been glad this forum isn't quite so nitpicky----the fact is, complaining doesn't help the show, it only depresses people who *didn't* notice that stuff.

Wow. That's a really long list of complaints...wow. *shrugs* I like Enterprise, I'm willing to give it the chance to make up for all the history rewrites.

OK, OK.....but you had to look it up, right?

How about this: Can you name the captain of your country's naval flagship as of 200 years ago?

And why haven't we ever heard of Robert April outside the Animate series?

nope but what does that have to do with star trek? Instead of Enterprise they should have done something like 1701-C The Ambassidor class Enterprise that we know virtualy nothing about. There are too many mistakes with Enterprise and if you turn it upsidedown Enterprise looks exactly like the akira class and I mean EXACTLY! but oh well maybe NCC-1701-C is still to come

Let me try to explain a little better. If you can't name your country's flagship's captain as of 200 years ago, why should Picard et al be able to name Archer off the top of their head? Yes, its true that they probably took a course in Starfleet history, and Picard I'd expect probably looked up previous Enterprise captains. But remember that Picard only mentioned Kirk once IIRC-----in "The Naked Now", and he was reading from a computer screen at the time.

In fact, lets check how many references Kirk got in the other series:

2 in DS9 ("Crossover" and "Trials and Tribble-ations")
1 in VOY ("Flashback")

Is it really so hard to believe Archer was never mentioned? Oh, and in one TNG episode, Worf mentions a star called "Archer 4".

Captain April enterprise ncc-1701 supposed first captain got none that i can recall and surely he should have had references

^April was mentioned in the Animated series, but that's non-canon.

I put all the timeline issues aside when watching Enterprise. Infact it doesn't bother me that much if at all. I just love the show.

PostFri Sep 13, 2002 10:57 pm    HEY!

Timelines, continuity, jeez, guys! Star Trek is TV! Entertainment! It's fun to watch, and that's what really counts, isn't it? Besides, they do their best, why don't YOU try maintaining timelines from over 500 episodes and movies?!
