Mon Apr 29, 2002 11:09 am Anti Grav can it be done ? |
|
Could you really create gravity in space with out turning the whole ship..?
You might need something like a maget that pulls on your body
maby injecting your self with a non harmfull metalic substance so the magnet would attract you ? any ideas

if we learn to manipulate gravitons, yes

well NASA has been able to create no gravity for people to train on, but i am not sure if they can make gravity, but the amount of gravity there is is caused by the size of the object/the pull it has on matter. Like we have a gravitational pull, just that it is not strong enough to pull anything toward us.

Actualy it's not the size but the mass. Think black holes.

Gravitons haven't been proven to be real. We assume however that a partile is responsible for transmiting gravity. WE have dubbed them Gravitions. However, if we could manipulate them (if they exist) we could have anti-grav.

i tried to fly off a tall building put all my effort into thinking 'fly'
but i hit the ground ..
needless to say if someting hasent been done yet dosent mean its not possable. and a bit more than your average joe size brain is needed. and you'ld proberly need a whole army of ppl to get the thing to work..

Quantum physics tells us that all forces are carried by a wave. It also tells us that all waves can be thought of as particles, and vice versa. In Star Trek, the particles are called gravitons; this may also be the technical name for particles carrying gravity. (For comparison, photons carry the electromagnetic force and gluons carry the strong nuclear force; I'm not sure what the weak nuclear force's particle is. And no, I'm not kidding about the name "gluons".)
If we can create gravitons, we can make artificial gravity. If we can destroy gravitons, we can make antigravity. It's that simple.

Very impressiva and correct. This is a simple task that only requries a bit of thinking!

FYI they are called Weak gauge bosons. And I do not believe strong force is called "strong nuclear force". Also, gravitons have not yet been observed, but they do fit nicely into the string theory. I would also make a few corrections to the first part , but I'll be nice

Weak gauge bosons...I'll have to remember that.
The strong force is just a short name for the strong nuclear force. I've even seen both names used in the same texts sometimes.
If you accept that all forces are carried by particles/waves (is there a name for the combination?), then there must be a particle that carries the gravitational force. Well, unless gravity is somehow different from all the other forces--which may well be true; we won't know until someone comes up with a quantum theory of gravity.

I am half-asleep, so the following may be incorrect:
There have been, in fact, several models of unified physics, some of which incorporated gravity into the unified force, some did not. I am quite positive that strong and weak forces are easy to unify with electromagnetic force, but gravity requires a non-boson (i.e. incrporating both 1/2 spina nd whole spin particle) string theory. I think.
