Startrek Generations is the movie where James Kirk dies and Enterprise D is distoryed. I have a question, Data in that movie had a thing that gived him 200 and something feelings, i wonder how he losed that? because in First conact and etc... data does not have the technology.

He got the emotionchip in Generations and in First Contact and Insurrection he had it but he just didn't use it all the time.

Yeah, in First Contact the Borg Queen re-activated it when she was trying to assimilate him.

Actually, Data acquired the chip from Lore during the original run of Star Trek TNG. Noonien Soong developed the device to be implanted into Data, but Lore stole it and later learned to use it to his advantage. By allowing Data to experience only hatred and anger, he was able to deactivate Data's moral and ethical subroutines and turn him against the crew. Lore's goal was to alter the Borg, which had been severed from the Collective after the reintroduction of Hugh, into fully artificial lifeforms. Data's moral and ethical subroutines were later reinitialized by Captain Picard. After Data returned to "normal" he shot and "killed" Lore.

It took several years before Data was ready to install the chip. He decided during the Generations movie was the time. Data struggled with his emotions thoughout the movie and later decided he had sufficiently mastered his range of emotions.

In the more than year after Data installed the chip, he had further learned to control his emotional outbursts and had also learned how to deactivate the chip when needed. (In the books it is suggested that deactivation of the chip does not render Data entirely emotionless. Emotions experienced after the deactivation are shunted to a memory core and held there until the chip is reactivated.)

By the time Insurrection was released, Data had learned to control his emotions nearly completely.

The reason the emotion chip hasn't been more exploited is that fans hated the very thought of a Data with emotions. It destroyed the very core of his character. It is also rumored that Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart were not very happy with the emotion chip concept either.
