I wondered how the nacelles work on a starship, and what purpose they serve.

Purpose: Duh! To power the ship into warp speed!
Powered: By the warp core! Antimatter and matter are mixed in a controlled unit. *In theory* it should create a massive amount of energy. That energy is directed into the nacelles. And through that, the ship will go to warp speed.

The nacelles are responsible for controling the energy given off by the Warp Core's reaction. That huge amount of power, when controlled correctly, is powerdul enought to control subspace. Since you can go faster than light in subspace (which you can't in our universe:() , Warp is possible. The nacells bend subspace until it forms a bubble around the ship. Then feell free to go faster than light - but not Warp 10 - that is immpossible in subspace! J/K - the shuttlecraft Chroachane achived Warp 10, in the Voy Episode Threshold.

Last time I checked warp speed was achieved by bending normal space and creating a tunnel through wich the ship could slip through (that way it can achieve higer-than light speeds since it's not actually moving through space so to speak)

Yea, I was watching the Nasa channel, and they talked about Warp possibilities, but they said they would not be able to create enough energy.

HArassing the power of matter/antimatter collisions will probably allow high enoguh energy levels (or possbily _massvie_ fussion?)

Most likely, the end result would be a massive explosion
