PostMon Jun 03, 2002 4:25 pm    Anti-Matter Technology

I wonder howcome Star trek does'nt tell us the techs. Unless they don't have them.

So I've thought up ways to Make it where it might be possible for anti-matter energy

I was thinking send a Gamma ray against a heavy surface(Like usual).
Then have heavy magnets propel the Anti-proton And the Proton into two seperate chambers. Then have the anti-matter stimulated to give off Positrons. I know that Anti-Protons can generate positrons without damaging it so I think that it would probaly need some Extra source of energy.
So if I can make anti-matter generate more anti-matter. but for every bit of energy I put into it I get twice as much back. I could use anti-matter to generate more anti-matter but Charging it up then use that anti-matter generated from Charging it up to destroy matter to generate energy.

Also,,, I was thinking of how to produce shields. If you have 2 magnets and you put your hand between them (Lets say we remove the air resistance factor) then there will still be some resistance. When you move your hand through the magnetic field it will generate electricity. This is called magnetic Induction. Now I was thinking If it were possible to create a powerful Electromagnetic wave to act as a shield. However you could only generate a negative field by using a Electromagnet. So I was thinking what if we used Positrons to produce a positive field, Electrons to generate a negative field(When stimulated). Then we have a field if they shoot at it releases energy absorbs some of the energy. With the energy released we could then use it to strengthen the shields therfore making attacks less effective and making every blow make the shields stronger. Creating a basic Primitive, But effective shield.
These are just a few of my Idea's.

I think I followed the rest, but this part is in violation of the law of Conservation of Energy.

Also, where did you hear that Antiprotons can generate positrons? It seems to me that an Antiproton which ejected a positron couldn't exist (conservation of charge). However, if you can explain more thouroughly......

Even matter-antimatter reaction is not 100% efficient, without speaking about 200%+. And how exactly do you plan to get the positrons? That does not sound right.

You're right that this should be in Trek Tech. Too bad my newly expanded mod powers don't cover this forum.

Plus, there's always the problem of containing the antimatter. You going to use a magnetic field? Because it would have to be unmanagably strong to contain any more than the smallest quantities of antimatter.

Now I need help with this one.

Anti- matter destroys matter which causes a harnesable explotion, converted to energy which powers the ship. Now wouldent any device capable of creating anti-matter be made of matter and there for destroy itself.

Matter being any substance.

Please reply, I get the techs of most star trek devices(not kidding me and my friend had to explane the theory of how warp drives and repliactors work, to our science teacher, we fielded every question untill she asked about anti-matter) like I get what the stuff is but I cant figure how they create or contain the stuff.

Then there is the anti-matter torpedos. The torpedos are made of matter, the anti-matter storege divice is matter. shouldent the torpedo then, by the laws of anti-matter, which states it destroys all matter, then destroy its caseing and itself, takeing the sarounding aria with it.

PostTue Jul 30, 2002 3:58 pm    YOU PUT

For bit of anti-matter produced it destroys both matter and anti-matter therfore for every bit of energy twice back.

OK, My primative theory. In a torpedeo the two are seperated by a containment field. If what you are saying is correct the containment field cannot be matter. So what is it? Energy maybe? I know energy=matter but maybe Starfleet abonded that idea to other ideas. Maybe energy can contain anti-matter!

I do believe that they do use sometype of magnetic field. I have heard them talking about magnetic constrictors and such.

but you can see matter, your made of it. I think you were right with the magnets in theory they could be used to contain an explotion, and the field is not made of matter. but then what creates anti matter.
