Anyone notice how they are usually the only 3 on an away mission? I mean in the other series the 3 most important crew members rarly go on an away mission alone. In TNG, DS9 and Voyager they tend to mix up different crew members for away missions, most of the chracters bonding in TOS was done on away missions rather then the ship like in the other series.

Yeah, now it's mainly "Don't send the Captain and senior officers on away missions". But back then, the Captain always put himself on the front line.
The fact that the Capt. was to *valuable* to lose on a mission started w/ Picard.
