The first book is just the novelization of the pilot, "Emissary".

Yes, I did. Its too bad Ro's backstory from the TNG books was dropped for "Avatar".

"Fallen Heros" was one of the best of the standard DS9 books.
"A Stitch In Time" is excellent, tells Garak's life story. Framing story set a short time after What You Leave Behind.
"Millenium" is a vast, epic trilogy. Primarily set (a) just before Emmisary, (b) in season 6, and (c) 25 years later. I know it sounds confusing, but.....
"Avatar book 1" is the first book in the "DS9 Relaunch"---that is, its meant to be the natural continuation to the series from WYLB. Instead of telling a nice, neat story that puts everyone back how they were by the end of it, they can move people around, introduce new officers, etc----because there is no series to contradict anymore. Its really quite good.

Yeah I agree. Thats one thing I thought about the Star Wars books. All the novels seemed to refer to each other...and everything seemed to fit if you know what I mean. Whereas with the Trek novels each book seems to be individual and there are lots of errors between books over things such as character's histories. did that make sense?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
The good news is, Pocket is making a huge effort to add more serialization to the newer novels. New Frontier is a serial; Challenger will be a serial if it ever gets off the ground; SCE is in serial form; best of all, the DS9 Relaunch is serialized. What's more, they refer to each other sometimes----Commander Jast (from Avatar book 1 and N-Vector) has a cameo in TNG "Maximum Warp" book 1. Not to mention the Gateways crossover, in which the DS9 Relaunch crew works with the New Frontier crew to a small extent.

Yeah I have the avatar books and I thought they were some of the best trek books i have.I'm reading DS9 "Betrayals" at the moment except it keeps going on about "probing" lol...that word gets on my nerves lmao along with "fronds" and "dappled"...eugh those words really annoy me...lol  but other than that the book is good. lol
