I've watched a few episodes, and I think they sucked. Maybe that's because I really don't know the general storyline. Could someone explain it to me?

In a nutshell, The Cardassians occupied the planet of Bajor for years. The Cardassians took and destroyed everything on the planet, and suddenly left everything. While they were there, they built a space station, Terok Nor (Deep Space Nine) and used it to process ore. When they left, the Bajorans asked for the Federation to assist them in rebuilding their world, etc. So the Federation sent in a staff to assist the Bajorans, from DS9. A commander from Utopia Planitia, Benjamin Sisko, was assigned to commandeer the station. The station sat in orbit around Bajor, and when the Bajoran wormhole to the gamma quadrant was discovered, moved to sit at the mouth of the wormhole.

Its rather complicated. Hmmm.....OK:

The Bajorans, (DS9 is near Bajor) were occupied for 50 years by the Cardassians. It was the Cardies who built DS9 (then called Terok Nor). For the first few seasons, there is a lot involving Bajor and Cardassia.

Granted, the first season is kind of boring.

Second season is when they introduce the Dominion, a race from the Gamma Quadrant (through the wormhole). The Dominion is a major threat, but its not until season 5 that they actually enter the Alpha Quadrant in force. They do this at the request of the Cardassians, specifically Gul Dukat.

You see, the Cardassian military was heavily damaged when the Klingons invaded them (end of season 3).

Prior to the Dominion entering the Alpha Quadrant, they still occasionally sent Changelings, the Founders of the Dominion, to infiltrate Starfleet by replacing key personell. Starfleet eventually found ways to detect Changelings, but it wasn't easy.

At the end of season 5, war breaks out with the Cardassians and the Dominion. DS9 is captured by the enemy for several episodes, before finally being retaken by a Federation/Klingon fleet.

As the war evolves, Section 31, a secret group of the Federation unbouded by morals, begins to covertly act against the Dominion. Needless to say, Starfleet doesn't approve of their methods.

The war continues until it is finally resolved in the last episode.

Is that enough?

----oh, also, Captain Sisko is considered a religious icon by most Bajorans, due to his contact with aliens living in the wormhole. Since the aliens exist outside of linear time, the Bajorans worship them as The Prophets.
