in the season 3 1st and 2nd episode" the search" garak supposedly dies how does he return then?

As I recall, "The Search" was actually a Dominion simulation that the crew was put through as a test. However, when they destroy the Wormhole, the Dominion ends the test and they wake up in the Gamma Quadrant. Everything since Sisko's abandon ship order was an illusion.
