They never wanted to do it. Jadzia just didn't agree to contract terms... so they had to let her go.

From the interview that I read w/ Terry Ferrel, she was just as surprised that they decided to kill her off. She said that she would still be willing to do the show, just not be as available as much because of Becker.

One thing I am glad of is that they did not put Ezri w/ Worf, that would definitely have been WEIRD. It was cute to put Ezri and Bashir together, since he had such a crush on Dax in the beginning of the show. Contrary to what it seems that Paramount is thinking, the relationships between the characters are what people react to, more so than the visual effects, even though they are great.

I don't know why you wouldn't Worf and Ezri together remember when Daz made out with Kurzon's ex-girlfriend even though she was a girl and it was in her last life time why wouldn't it work with them too.

It also would have limited what they could have done w/ Ezri's character. They were able to do more w/ her leaving her a free agent.

I think they realise that the love between them is not the same as between that of Jadzia and Worf. So that they would prefer to be friends, than jeopardize a close friendship (i am sure Ezri could tell some stories about Worf!).
