I'm just saying because we think of projectiles as obsolete when really they are one of the hardest things to treat, and they can do absolute permenant damage.

Distruptors ARE NOT only used by Klingons, Romulans, and Breen. In 1 TOS episode, the Gorn were using disruptors. The Jem'hadar use a polaron based beam.

In fact there are many types of disruptor weapons, but the english language lumps them all together under the word "disruptor." However, they range from simple sonic disruptors, to neural disruptors, to molecular disruptors.

Source: Some TOS book that I read too long ago to remember much of it.

Actually, alot of choice in weaponry has to do
with the ship's velocity at the time you want to attack.

You cannot use phasers in warp, just photon or
multiphasic torpedoes.

Phasers are the weapon of choice at impulse
speeds but torpedoes may also be used.
Remember, due to time effects, starships only
maintain greater than 0.25 impulse speeds
briefly - even during battles!

Actually, from what I hear "Full Impulse" is only .25 lightspeed. Same thing, it's just that they don't voluntarily stay below that level, it's built-in.

All vessels capable of impulse speeds are equipped with a space-time driver coil. This creates a sub-warp Cochrane field around the vessel, making the ship smaller, so greater speeds can be achieved. The space-time driver coil can be overpowered to make a semi-subspace field around the vessel so that the time-dialation effects are reduced. The DS9 TM stated that the Defiant's impulse engines were capable of 1.25c. I think that's a mistake, but if not, it would prove that the impulse engines can create a subspace field around a vessel. It may not be efficient, but it'll work.
Everyone knows there's not time-dialation in warp because of the subspace field. Then, if an impulse drive can create a warp field, ships 'should' be capable of .99c
