The Dominion was the Federation's enemy in DS9. They even started a huge war with them. The Dominion is like the Federation in that it has many races within it. However these races dont always join by will, but by force. Some races are even genetically enhanced to be better warriors or diplomats by the founders - the founding race of the Dominion. The founders are shapeshifters and the other races of the dominion are genetically tailored to think that the founders are gods.

Anyway, the Jem'Hadar are one of the races of the Dominion. They are genetically enhanced to be warriors. Thus, they are the soldiers of the Dominion. They are completely loyal because of their addiction to a drug called Ketracel White. In fact, they are so loyal that if a founder is killed on their shift, they would commit suicide.

There is more to the Dominion then just that. I recommend watching DS9 if your interested. You might even like it. In my opinion it's a good series. It's my favorite actually.

Dominion: Powerful Alliance of planetary groups in the Gamma Quadrant. The Dominion was established two millenia ago by the rclusive Founders who controlled hundreds of planets. Although the Founders themselves were almost never seen, Dominion power was brutally exercised by the Jem'Hadar, insuring compliance with the Founder's rule.In 2340, the Dominion invaded and conquered the planet Yadera Prime and the T-Rogans in 2370. The Dominion planted agents in the Alpha Quadrant, so by the late 2370, these agents provided the Dominion with tactical intelligence on the Federation and other Alpha Quadrant powers. Such agents, often Founders posing as members of other species also worked to destabilize the Alpha Quadrant, apparently as an ongoing prelude to a Dominion invasion. The Dominion objected to the incursion of Alpha Quadrant cultures into the Gamma Quadrant. In late 2370, they made their dipleasure known by destroying a number of ships and wiping out the New Bajor colony. Dominion operatives captured several members of the Starship Defiant's command crew in 2371 in an effort to learn how strongly life-forms in the Alpha Quadrant would resist a Dominion incursion into that part of the galaxy. In 2373, the Dominion entered into an alliance with the Cardassian Union, giving the Founders a significant stronghold in the Alpha Quadrant. Gul Dukat brokered the deal after secret talks.

Founders: Ancient civilization of shapeshifters, the architects of the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant. Long ago, the Founders explored the galaxy, but found themselves to be feared, hunted and killed by the solids, their temr for non-shapeshifters. Out of self defense the Founders retreated to a planet in the Omarian Nebula. From this location, the Founders established the Dominion, through which they controlled hundreds of planets throughout the Gamma Quadrant, imposing order through ruthless violence and fear. Although isolated, the Founders did not lose their curiosity about the unvierse. They sent a hundred infant members of their species across the galaxy, implanting in each a powerfuldesire to return home, so that the Founders could learn about distant places. Deep Space Nine security chief Odo was one of these infants. The Founders had a strong family link to each member of their species, and it had been said that no shapeshifter had ever killed another. The Founder's ability to assume the shape of an object is so complete that a Founder in the guise of an individual of another species is virtually undetectable, even with sophisticayed scanning equipment. Should, however, a piece of a Founder's body be separated from the main body mass, the separated piece reverts to its normal gelatinous state. Starfleet phasers set to a force of 3.5 were sufficient to force a Founder to revert to a gelatinous state. Founders also revert to a gelatinous state upon death.

The Founders used a warrior species called the Jem'Hadar to force compliance of the various members of the Dominion. The Founders maintained control of the powerful Jem'Hadar through the use of genetic engineering, altering Jem'Hadar physiology to be dependant on Ketracel white, a drug that only the Founders could supply, through their agents the Vorta. Some Vorta agents suspected that even this extreme measure may not have been sufficient to control the Jem'Hadar's powerfully violent tendencies. Most Jem'Hadar spent their entire lives without meeting a Founder. To them, the Founders were thought of as myths or even Gods.

Jem'Hadar: Genetically altered warrior species from the Gama Quadrant. The Jem'Hadar functioned as the army of the Dominion, controlled by the Founders through the Vorta. They were first encountered in 2370, by the personnel from station Deep Space 9. Jem'Hadar live for combat. Before going into battle, Jem'Hadar conduct a ritual ceremony in which they proclaim, "I am dead. As of this moment we are all dead. We go into battle to reclaim our lives. This we do gladly because we are the Jem'Hadar. Remeber, victory is life."
Genetically engineered by the Founders, Jem'Hadar lack a vital isogenic enzyme (known as ketracel white) needed for survival. The Founders use this chemical dependence to maintain control over the powerful Jem'Hadar. The Jem'Hadar receive this drug through special supply tubes implanted in their necks. Since the Jem'Hadar were directly controlled by the Vorta, most Jem'Hadar spent their entire lives without seeing a Founder. To them, the Founders were almost a myth of god-like stature.
Jem'Hadar do not eat, because white is the only thing they need for nutrition. Relaxation would make them weak, so they don't sleep. Jem'Hadar are are bred in birthing chambers, so there is no need for females or sexual reproduction. They mature at a rapid rate and are able to fight within three days of emergence. Few live fifteen years, and no Jem'Hadar had ever reached 30 years of age. If they manage to reach 20, they achieve the status of "Honored elder".

Sometimes it's weird. Information can be scrambled, some people just know it. I think that a combination of rumors and facts make things interesting and fun.

I may offend you, but tough s#*t! I have to shoot you down like a rabid dog, LtDick. If you read the rest of the post you would have found out that this exerpt was taken from the Star Trek Encyclopedia. Word for word it is almost exactly the same as the encyclopedia. If you have a problem with the info, log a complaint with the Okudas who were responsible for writing the book. If not just shut the hell up.
