I dont really find any season of star trek boring. I just consider some episodes better than others. I love trek and would watch any of it

I thought TNG's first season was one of the worst seasons of Trek ever. There were certainly a few good episodes here and there (The Naked Now comes to mind) but, overall, it was pretty 'meh'. The pilot is one of my least favorite Trek episodes out there and is the worst pilot next to the atrocious Caretaker. On a side note, VOY's first season is baaaaaaaaaaad.

TNG was still a great show, no doubt. Its first season, like so many other first seasons, was weak. A few shows had great first seasons, like DS9, Angel, Battlestar Galactica, etc., but for the most part, first seasons are the worst.

LF is right.

Usually, season 1s are bad because the actors, writers, etc. are trying to find what works and what doesn't work.

I think if you go through any series (with maybe the exception of X-Files) you will see poor writing and performances.

Nothing different here.

i always think of season 1 as the pilot season. especially in TNG, the writers and actors not only had to convince us that this was a good show worth watching, but they had to convince themselves Brent spiner didn't think it would last for more than a 1 season. I always look at worf to see to see how advanced the show has gotten and from conspiracy to the child he changed a lot and its a marker of how much the show changed from episode 1 to 2. while the child was an awful episode it was the first episode with a sub plot which was fantastic. all the episodes in season 1 didn't have sub plots. Also another great thing that happened in the child was rikkers awesome beard. that thing belongs in the beard hall of fame. the second season was quantum leap from the first season. although the first season was still great. i used to not be able to watch TNG, because i was such a fan of voyager its important to watch the first season to get the backstories thats the best thing that season 1 brings thats why i think its like a pilot season.

PostFri Jul 24, 2009 8:25 pm    The good needle in the haystack of Season One

Season One was a bit of a snore but the first season of any new series is always a bit hard up for attention because actors, writers and audience are all still trying to find their places. But Season One still had its good episodes, like:

Encounter at Farpoint was a bit on the cerebral side and it was restricted because it was the very first episode and had to introduce all the characters too. But I quite enjoyed ut.

The Naked Now turned a bit anticlimactic when Wesley saved the day but it was pretty good too.

Hide and Q was insightful and just overall greatr.

"The Big Goodbye" "Angel One" "11001001" "Heart of Glory" were good too. And "The Arsenal of Freedom" was the best of that season, I find.

I am not usre what to think of the first Season of Star Trek the next Generation. I get it at 1 am monday thru Friday where I live but they kind of jump around from season to season which makes it a bit hard for follow.

Anyways from what I have seen from the first season I believe 7 episodes out the 16 I have seen so far that I have been able to see werent all to bad. But then again I am just now starting to get into Star Trek. Was raised primarly in a family that was more into Star Wars so that was pretty much what I grew up watching. Anyways now that I am older and have been able to see some of the Orignal Series and The Next Generation Series I am begining to like it.

I noticed a few Next Generation episodes made back notes from the Original Series. Like in the episode where there is something that gets on the ship and makes everyone feel like they are drunk.

Well I have went out and got the complete Series Collection of Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD. Got if for 80 bucks from China, all 7 seasons in a reall neat collectors box.

Anyways Ive watched the entire 1st season so far so I can accurately address this now. The first episode was a good start to the series showing how the rest of the crew was assembled. Although the whole thing with Q did puzzle me at the begining.

The only other real signifigant episodes were in my opinion for season one being Tasha Yar's death, the parasite things infecting Starfleet, and the last one for the season where the Enterprise confronts the Romulins(dont think i spelled that right) and they say that they are back.

other then those the rest of the episodes seem to be similiar to the orginal series

PostFri Oct 09, 2009 12:25 am    WOW WHAT A RELIEF!!!!

Guys. I have been passively appreciating the new star trek shows(as oppossed to the original star trek) every since the tng came out. I mite have watched it if it happened 2 b on but that was it. Recentely, however, I got caught up in voyager(ive watched every single episode in chronological order)and have truly enjoyed being part of their journey....when done with all the voyager episodes , however, I decided to start TNG from the very beginning like I did voyager. I am thru the first 5 episodes and yes!!! they are BORING. I originally wanted 2 c TNG episodes (I always thought that they were the best) but Ihad Voyager acceseble 2 me so I had to get attached to voyager.

Question? 4 a guy like me shud I just skip the whole first season of TNG? I was guessing that it was possible , like a poster was sayin that the 1st season was a pilot season write off and not very good cause they were new at it. This discussion forum is giving me hope!! where does it start getting as good as the voyager episodes? Im a newbie so I dont know all the answers to a lot of the stuff that u guys take 4 granted...Thanks!

PostFri Oct 09, 2009 12:31 am    oh yeah and wesley

Ive always couldnt stand the sight of wesley even when i wasnt into star trek...him and Harry Kim really make make a great team 4 get the f$ck of my TV duo. I am appalled 2 c the large role that wuss wesley has in the first season.
