Does anyone know how much time passed in between Generations and First Contact? Also, what did the crew of the Enterprise do while the Enterprise E was being built? What was the flagship during the construction of the new Enterprise?

My guess would be that once the Enterprise-D was destroyed, they took a ship that was currently being built and slapped Enterprise-E on it. That's my theory anyways...

There's a great book on that subject called 'Ship of the Line' . The Ent-E is captained by Morgan Bateson- (the guy from cause and Effect TNG).

I found it on ebay, I plan on getting it. This is a topic that I've been wondering about for a long time. Thank you.

The book "The Return" (William Shatner) is also set during this period, good read.

I love the Return, and all those Shatner books on Kirk, especially went he brings Kirk, picard and Janeway and some of their crews together. He left out Sisko and DS9 though!

Andy, I think the topic means for the TNG crew? I don't know.

Starfleet Command...

DS9 was in some of the stories, actually, Shatner simply didnt have Sisko return, I guess.

What happens to real soldiers and military personnell when thier tours are up or thier units or vessels hve been disbanded or destroyed.

The crew would of been reassigned for a period until they had rebuilt or constructed a new Enterprise.

Some also may have gone on a sabbatical and some may have taken long overdue leave.

There are certainly some good potential storylines there for that period.

"Ship of the Line" was a good novel and it introduced the Sovereign class, one of which became Enterprise-E. But it was still just a novel and not considered gospel. Geordi mentioned they had been out and about in their new Enterprise about a year at the beginning of First Contact. My guess is all the crew was reassigned after suitable R & R.
