Hmm, this is tough. I've been watching a lot of Stargate lately. I think I'll have to make a mixed opinion and say that I like Stargate better than Star Trek except for Deep Space Nine, which was the best of the Treks in my opinion.

[quote="robbiewebster"]I just finished watching every episode of both stargate series (all of the ones that are out on dvd) and both of the new movies. Don't get me wrong, I love star trek. That's why I joined this site. But as of right now. Stargate is my number 1 favorite sci-fi series of all time. They have some awesome writers that were with the show for all ten years. I highly recommend that you all watch the entire series.
My favorite thing is how the writers will take a show from say the 2nd season, and write a story the builds off of that show in say the 8th season. I cant wait for the next movie and series, and I hope Atlantis keeps going.
[Hwow Robbiewebster, "Stargate", I hardly can believe that it is better than StarTrek, but I say no more, because I didn't saw anything yet of StarGate, But i bought season 1 on dvd today, en gonna watch it this evening. Now I'm really curioze about it.

I saw the first episode of Stargate yesterday. I didn't like it a bit. Of course it's maybe to early to judge, but i 'm almost certain that for me Startrek is way much better than Stargate. If I ever change my mind than i'll post it rightaway

I've actually just recently started watching the Stargates. Have to say, though, that of the two series I tend to prefer Atlantis so far. Either way, they both seem to be very well written and acted series.
McKay, Sheppard, and O'Neill are hilarious.
Connor Trinneer (Trip from ENT) actually plays a re-occuring char in Atlantis!

You should at least go a little deeper into the first season. You may not like it as much as Trek but it's still worth your time. It's an excellent sci-fi series.

Owkay IntrepidIsMe, I'll do just that, although I must say, i don't understand , they just start their story just like that.No explenation whatso ever, about the stargate itself, and when they go trough the gate , they arrive on "another planet" I supose, cause they give no explenation. These "other planets" al look just like earth. And then there are these "army-suites", that is not cheering you up realy.

Perhaps the reason why you didn't get any explanation is because there was a movie that came out before the series. It's where the explanation of the gate is. All of the series' are based off of the original movie which is from the early 90's.

I would assume it's available on DVD but I'm not sure.
Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are two different series, though some characters make appearances in both. SG-1 is the original series. It had 11 seasons, I believe. Atlantis stopped after 5 seasons.

Ow my! didn't knew that eather. I presume that Atlantis is better than Stargate SG-1 . Hm I should need to find that movie then. thanks for the information, I hope now that i start like it a little bit more. Comming from StarTrek , Stargate is not really an improvement. But I'm gonna make my judgement after a few seasons

It's actually pretty easy to find on DVD, it's still in most retail stores, which is pretty good for a movie that's about 15 years old.
I think what I like most about SG-1 is the mixture of history/mythology and science fiction. And RDA kind of works for me, too,

SG-1 had 10 seasons and two movies (with one more on the way) Atlantis had 5 seasons and one movie (possibly more to come). There is also a new series coming out called Universe.
