Would you chose Battlestar Galactica over Star Trek, or the other way around? There is a topic like this for stargate, but I wanted to see how many BSG fans there are
(the new BSG, not the 1970's one)

I picked Star Trek because I assume you mean the new BSG which is just garbage in my opinion. Now if it was the original BSG then in a heart beat BSG.

Yep, just like I hated ST:TNG. Too much overacting, and awful effects.

Yep just like that. The new BSG is ok, I just personally think they went a bit too far with some of the plot twists, and the theme.

Good poll to have on a Star Trek forum btw.

Battlestar Galactica is sublime, it is verry good writing. But indeed , it is to short, and not only that of course. It is difficult to say, its a matter of taste. I simply feel much better in the StarTrek Universe. BattleStar is maybe to dark, There is so much bad news in the world, i always considered StarTrek as hopefull en positive, and it is!! That most of all I like so much about StarTrek, al the StarTrek series en movies.

Oh, BSG is not too short. It ended ferfectly and right no time. At least it had a planned ending. Try do that with Heroes, or Lost.
But indeed, the heavy drama in BSG takes a bit getting used to, especially if you are expecting technical information and alien races like in Star Trek.
anyway, i never liked TOS or DS9 so that leaves only 3 series for me.

You're right about the ending altough I only got to the third season. BSG is hm, just more realistic. For those who like more real SiFi BSG will be better than StarTrek. But I now like more fantasy. In StarTrek there is more imagination.
DS9, i agree, I 'm not fond of it to. But TOS, that is like one has to learn to drink black coffee(yep without sugar or milk , It is nosthalgie although I wasn't born yet then, but hm, it's like watching an old movie, You gotta make a mental switch to be able to apreciate it. It is also the same with some periods of time in arthistory, there are some unknown painters, standing in de shadow of the big names, that are also interesting to take a look at.

This is a tough decision. I was just recently introduced to the new Battlestar series. I am near the end of the third season and am a little burnt out. I have to agree with some of the earlier opinions. It is dark. I am a little burnt out on it, because it is just something that is hard to marathon. I see so many parallels to what is happening in the world right now, which I know was intentional. I should have expected it to get as dark as it did in say Razor or when they first showed the Cylon that was held captive aboard the Battlestar Pegasus. Some of those issues are quite hard for me to watch.
Star Trek I could watch all day long, any day. I can't decide. They are such different series, that the comparison does not seem far for me to make.

Episode "Pegasus" is the best BSG episode of all. I had my mouth open during the entire episode, even forgot to swallow.
Only "the oath" and "Blood on the scales" from the last season can match it. I never expected something that brilliant in the last season.

I will definitely have to finish the series soon. I have the seasons sitting on my desk, staring at me. I am just on a Star Trek TOS kick at the moment (I need the camp value right now). I don't want to get back into the dark atmosphere until I am ready to dive in. I stopped right where Starbuck disappears.

haha, I understand verry well, it is quiet a distance between TOS en BSG, but I like both of them.
Gonna try to put a drawing here, see if it works.
