I'm definently picking it up when it comes out. I'll probably reserve it if I can.

From what was heard last the original studio working on it went under and some other studio bought out the code...wich is delaying the release more.

Interested to see if this can get at least as many subscribers as WoW when its released (10 million and counting.....)

But even half of that,or anything to keep it alive,im sure theres more than enough fans with the income and spare time out there (If you look at CoV/CoH,The matrix online,SW online,Warhammer online, which has less users but the servers are still going strong)

According to the games website Cryptic studios is still working on it. Thats the same studio that announced the game back in September.

Aye,they took it over in 2008,but before them it was Perpetual Ent. or something like that, wich went bankrupt, and so they basically had to do a lot of things over again (which explains why we`ve been waiting years for the game even though it was announced to be in the works years ago)

For Ref :

"Previously, Perpetual Entertainment developed the game from 2004 to 2008 until its bankruptcy in January of 2008. The license to develop the game and art assets were transferred to Cryptic Studios; however, the code remained with Perpetual Entertainment and its Perpetual Game Engine."

Oh ok I never heard about the game until Leonard Nemoy and Cryptic studios held a press conference to announce the game last September. Thanks for the info.

NP

Its great they got someone like Nimoy to endorse the game as well.I cant wait to see the finished product even though i dont have the pc to play it (it will be at least a dual core 2.4 ghz im guessing) or the time for a MMORPG (its like a second yet enjoyable job @ level grinding)

I also wonder if it will pull any EVE online players wich atm iirc is the biggest MMORPG set in space and how it will handle misions and goals...i mean the trek universe isnt really set around boss fights and vs battles and PVP like in a game unless they force it....I was hoping they would allow the option for more player races, and more sorts of missions and classes (how about being a trader,or a maquis ?).....well,maybe with an expansion and they are still busy programming so...guess we still have to wait and see

Isn't this the same game they are also advertising for some consoles as well, such as PS3 and XBOX 360? If so I can't wait for it either!!! If not...I still can't wait for it cuz it'll be awesome! lol!

Woah ,times have indeed changed fast...never thought id see a MMORPG like that on a CONSOLE (i guess its easier to play them with a keyboard than a xbawks hueg controller) but yes indeed this will now be released for XBOX360 and most likely PS3 as well after browsing around the main site for the first time in ages

Also finally saw the current trailer and im really impressed. Its come a long way from long ago when it was like " well you can play humans, vulcans, andorians, klingons" and that was about it...now you can play practically ANY race and even create your own...and they`ll have PvE and PvP in certain areas for people who want epic space battles....not sure how the "everyone is captain/in charge of their own ship" will work out...who will be the crew then,NPC or guild ? And still wondering what sorts of missions there will be....hope they will keep it as trek faithfull as possible. They still havent decided the monthly fee either .

No problem, glad I could be of help to you neo, lol! And yea, its been awhile since I visited the main site either...in fact, I think I have yet to do it. But from what I've already stated and seen in my Playstation The Official Magazines, I look forward to the being on a planet portion of the game, or controlling your own starship. However, I agree that I'm not too sure how "everyone can be their own captain" will work out either, probably not too well, but who knows. Nonetheless...as long as it stays as trek faithful as possible, as you stated, I'm sure it'll be a great game and I cant wait...oh my goodness! Ah yes, and as long as the monthly rate isn't too high, cuz with today's economy, even as popular as Star Trek is...that could be a major downfall right there.

Thanks man, after all, this is a friendly forum,we`re all here to help each other out

Also apparently, from the site,it seems like they want to try and have the PC,Xbox and PS3 people playing on the SAME servers...that would be awesome as those who cant afford a high end PC can use their Xbox or PS3 and play with PC friends (another reason for me to buy a console...guess i`ll go with PS3 so far,so much for Tekken 6 being the only reason, but ive heard too many stories of the red rings of death- if i dont upgrade)

Monthly fee, very true that the world is in recession, and people are cutting down on some "luxuries" expenses like entertainment. But WoW is around 20$ a month (or i think less if you subscribe for a 3 month contract),i doubt this would be more expensive on launch, and, though it may seem high ,if one think about it,how easy one spends that money on other stuff during the month like other games, food, concert tickets, movie tickets, drinks, etc, its not unreasonable for something that will provide very good entertainment.

As for the main blurb on the site at the moment,as follows :

"Become part of Star Trek: The Star Trek universe will appear for the first time in a massively multiplayer online game. Everything from the elegant domes of Starfleet Academy to the ancient temples of Vulcan, from the towers of Qo’noS to the Fire Caves of Bajor, from the mysterious Mutara Nebula to the unexplored voids of deep space, all will be represented in stunning 3-D graphics. Immerse yourself in the future of the Trek universe as it moves into the 25th century: a time of shifting alliances and new discoveries.

Adventure in the Final Frontier: Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations in an expanding vast universe. Make contact with alien races, discover resources and uncover mysteries that will change the future of the Star Trek universe."

IMHO this sounds GREAT,in that it sounds very Trek universe, and not all antitypical Trek combat (combat is fun but Trek was never all combat).I mean i`d spent years just exploring and trading and making first contact

Again,from site :
"You Are the Captain: Command your own starship as a Federation Captain or a Klingon Warrior. Outfit it with the systems that you need to make your mark in the galaxy. Customize your ship as you see fit. Recruit, train and mold your crew into an elite force for exploration and combat.

Surface, Shipboard and Deep Space Adventures: Command your vessel in thrilling space battles, or beam down to planets with your away team for face-to-face confrontations. Missions will take you and your friends into space, planetside and even inside starships!"

.....Pimp my starship ? It keeps sounding better and better. But indeed, the whole everyone is a captain thing...i mean,i have no problem with being an ensign or such...who wants to be a captain ALL the time,i mean, ntm the captains are usually the ones assimilated by the borg/abducted/interrogated by cardassians/mind controlled/having to pilot a ship into another ship in a crisis etc.Sometimes one just wants to relax and take orders, not give them XD

Maybe there will be as they said RP servers, for Guilds or members whove proved themselves and who can operate a ship together (that would be awesomesaurus) but not sure if that would be possible..throwing a bunch of newbies together to control a ship might be lolz but one might not have any sucess ("what button i press to fire photons ?lol!" or having ones pilot officer accidentally disconnect in the middle of an asteroid field). But if they could do that they might have even more people signing up

The Game Informer issue that featured this game said that it will be on PC and the 360 for sure. It could also possibly be on the PS3. But the 360 and PC users would be able to interact with each other. You never know for sure though because plans tend to change.

Greetings,

I saw one of your mods post over on the Star Trek Online forums, so I thought I would stop by. Star Trek Online MMO is coming along nicely. It is now in closed beta testing, and scheduled for release before Spring 2010. From the footage I've seen, it looks pretty awesome.

On launch, there will 2 playable factions, Federation and Klingon. The setting is the year 2409 (30 years after Nemesis), and the Khitomer accords have broken down.

There is both space combat, and ground combat.

Since it is an MMO, fleets (guilds) are already being formed on their site. If anyone here is interested in joining a fleet, let me know.
