can anyone tell me if enterprises tricorders had a different name (other than tricorder), and why the producers made them look so much more revolutionary than those seen in TOS.
ENT had those cool little silver scanners.

i just found my own answer. the ones used on enterprise were called scanners. they had limited capabilities. but any further contrasts would be nice to know.

i like the PADD-like tricorder used on the Enterprise-E in Nemesis--fewer crazy lights/buttons, and instead, just a nice big touchscreen. it's a much more functional/ergonomic design.
i wonder if it has access to iTunes?

because everyone's seen TOS episodes a zillion times, and wants something more updated and utilizing the latest CGI available, irrespective of whether it looks more revolutionary than something that came after it, chronologically. same deal with the ship itself

The tricorder I do believe is one of these tools in StarTrek that I find a little over the edge. Of course, it's Si Fi, but sometimes I think by myself, : 'it's is to clear that this is nog possible, it looses credibility". Of course the same thing one might say when it goes about 'beaming' en 'transporters'.
