PostWed Feb 25, 2009 12:17 am    Languages!

Do you speak/are you learning/would you like to learn any other languages? If so, how many and what are they?

I did German in High School and a little bit of French and I'm currently learning Russian which is going really well! I love it...it seems complicated at first...but it's pretty simple once you get going. I really wanna get fluent in Russian. In the future I'd love to try Polish! And I wouldn't mind giving German a second chance too, I really enjoyed it in school. Hungarian's another I'd like to try. I'm just obsessed with Europe! I really wanna travel and I don't think I'll ever get bored of learning new languages. Being able to speak another language opens up so many doors! However, there was a time when I totally hated it. So yeah...I wanna hear what you think.

I speak English to a finer degree than most english teachers, not that you'd pick it up with my typing skills, as my writing, and typing both, are rather horrific.
I can speak both common, and old tongue S'cwmp'c((The tribe I belong to)), but I do it with a "White man accent", as I have my mother's european tongue, and can't stop the damn r's from rolling.
I can also curse in an additional two languages. It used to be 7. lol

I took spanish for eleven years, but I've forgotten nearly all of it and I wasn't all that great. After a while I just didn't care anymore I guess. I've always wanted to know how to speak French, though. I took a course a couple semesters ago but the teacher was eh.

I speak Dutch & English very good and a little French, Spanish and Italian. I'd like to speak Italian better because it's such a beautiful language. I'm going on a holiday this summer for 3 weeks so I'll get more into it then I guess

My native language is German.
I took English throughout all of secondary school (duh, it was manditory), French from 7th to 10th grade, Russian from 11th grade til the end (we have 13 grades), although I already knew some Russian as I am half-Russian (also, I believe I can speak it way better than my fellow students...it's because I could really practise at home and stuff), and last summer I did an intensive 6-week-course in Dutch and now I'm fluent Well, I have to be, I attend university in the Netherlands, and that was sort of the entrance requirement (we had to take an official state exam called NT2 (Nederlands als tweede taal).

You aren't missing much.
((Sorry, I know it's a national language, here in Canada, but I'm not personally a fan.))

I can speak English and I've studied French for the last 9 years (current in my second year of a university degree involving French, so I'm pretty good, but not quite fluent). I studied Spanish for four years until I left school but I can still understand a lot, as I proved to myself in Barcelona in January. I also speak a little bit of Welsh, coming from Wales and being obligated to study it in school, and two weeks ago I signed up to a Beginners' Catalan course, so jo parlo una mica de Catal,

Long time, no see.

I'm finishing up the three year Japanese program here at uni, and considering taking second years of study in German and Russian.

I speak English, and at the moment that's enough for my brain

I can understand a bit of French (studied at school for 5 years) and Dutch (not studied at all...). I also can translate from the Scouse and Geordie dialects of English, which do sound very much like other languages when spoken properly, with a heavy accent

I speak English, bad English, redneck, Spanish, Russian, and can not speak it, but can understand Japanese pretty well. Though it has been a long time.

You will enjoy Russian. It is a very powerful language and you should have fun with it.

I know some American Sign Language. I took it whilst in college. I really enjoyed those classes!! My prof was deaf, so the entire class was always taught via ASL. You were very much forced into paying attention and learning it. I hope to take more classes one of these days!

I really only know English, but have seen Spanish in text enough to get the idea of certain sentences, and thanks to a couple other people I know, have an idea on some french terms. Can I speak it or understand it? No, not really. So pretty much, it's just English.

My first language is English. Being from Alabama and all, I have a harsh Southern accent.

I am fluent in Korean, partially fluent in Chinese (I can't read or wrote Chinese, but I can do both in Korean!) and am currently learning French. After I get the basics of French, I want to try either going back and learning Spanish again (I took one year of it a couple of years ago) or try my hand at Russian.
