PostSun Dec 07, 2008 4:58 pm    How would you save the Enterprise-D?

I watched StarTrek: Generations the other day and I was quite upset at seeing the flagship of the federation getting owned by a 20 year old klingon bird of prey. I would have done alot more than Riker to save the ship.
1)Rotate shield frequencies
2)Use evasive maneuvers
3)Fire more than one phaser shot
4)Multi-task, have Mr Data send out the klingon battle cry aswell as defend the ship.

What do you guys think?

(Sorry if this thread has been done before)

It's really not that simple, they didn't get that the shield frequencies was the problem. I agree that maybe he should have thought of that, and he should have returned fire more. The point was, he could return fire all he wanted, the Klingon weapons were going through the shields. The Enterprise's weapons, wouldn't. That's why they did what they did.

Hardly, at 6 or 7 years of service, she was just getting started, we have aircraft carriers of much older age just counting service, currently active.

In the "Star Trek" universe, the original Enterprise was considered "out-dated" at 10 years, according to The search for Spock.
Also, you notice the difference in technology between the Ent E and D?

The enterprise was older then that, if the date of being constructed at 2245 becomes canon, then it was 'old' as Star Trek III was in 2285-ish. Also realize it was differnt time periods, by TNG ships were built to last. The difference in technology is easy to explain, considering it's a newer starship and a differnt design.

i wouldnt save it....like picard says there are plenty more letters left in the alphabet...Enterprise D was a time tested ol girl, but every ship's service must come to an end, and at least she went out in a blaze of glory instead of sitting around in a decom yard for a decade or two before being parted out....besides everyone knew there would be a new enterprise that has been a naval vessel since the day of wood and sail

PostFri Feb 27, 2009 3:19 pm    SOS: Save Our Starship!

you guys need to read your STNG Technical Manual by Rick Sternbach and Michael Okuda. The Galaxy class is built with a 100-year warranty and the Enterprise was brand spanking new, as Picard mentioned in his log in the teaser of "Encounter at Farpoint."

. Even if you had to work out the math, the episode The Battle said Picard lost his ship the Stargazer in the battle at Maxia 9 years earlier. So the Enterprise is at 9 years old at the most. After 7 seasons and 1 movie the Enterprise is less than 20 years old.

I still wouldn't save her though. She was hot but she was built for the story and the story changed when they moved to the big screen. Enterprise E works better in the movies than D ever could.

Enterprise-D needed to be destroyed to make room for the Enterprise-E which worked better on the big screen.

Turn the deflector into an energy weapon again like in best of both worlds? Failing that, two words: RAMMING SPEED!

Queer As Folk is an iconic series in the history star trek voyager
